Steam cache verification

Unread postby styckx » Fri Oct 14, 2011 12:17 pm

I've noticed something strange lately when doing this. It no longer shows a download percentage or even that anything is being downloaded.

Last night when I got home TS 2012 auto updated. The game line turned yellow and the percentage complete meter appeared.

Right after I verified cache, 55 files needed replacing. No yellow game title, no percentage complete.

So, thinking it didnt update I deleted my entire NEC route and assets. Verified cache, 5000+ files needed replacing. Again though, game title didn't turn yellow, no percentage complete meter.

The odd thing is, it did actually download, checked my game folder, low and behold everything was replaced and able to play the route. I even double checked my recycle bin to make sure I actually deleted it. Yep, both folders were there, I did delete it.

Anyone else experience this?

Yes, happened to me too. Was trying to get the latest update and I also thought it didn't work, so I ran it two more times. Only mine didn't actually update until the 2nd try because when I searched for Updated on date, nothing was found the first 2 times.

I've seen this... seems like it's been since the Steam upgrade that came about the same time as TS12, but I can't swear to that. Sometimes I'll get the little black "Steam has completed downloading XXXX" flash alert in the lower right corner of my screen... sometimes not.
Another new Steam weirdness I'm noticing is the process continues to run even after closing Steam completely (after exiting the tray icon). Sometimes; not that often; I've seen it 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Has anyone else seen this? I find it still running in my processes list, only using about 32MB of memory (usually it's over 100MB); I can end the process with no problems and it re-launches normally. !*don-know!*

Tori, if I exit Steam, the Process goes away. When it's running, it uses just under 20k memory, but that seems to keep climbing. I don't think it gets to a Mb tho. I'll check later, see if it settles down.

When I verify game files, I get a small popup window showing percentage, is that what you mean, Sty? Or do you mean the RW Icon that shows over to the left on the Tool Bar? It turns yellow then turns green as it's updating for me. And if I hover the mouse over the Steam icon in the lower right, it will tell me the percentage.
