OK, this is all IMHO, of course. When you see the stuttering, look at your hard drive activity light. Flashing? Yep, it sure is. This is all interrelated. The game has to access the drive as it loads the next section: scenery, AI, you get the idea.
Tori and I have both done a lot of messing around with hard drive setups. I had a RAID 0 with two WD Black 500Gb 7200 RPM drives. It helped a lot over a single drive. Now I have two 500Gb Raptors. Cost an arm and a leg and didn't help that much. I'm not gonna even think about an SSD. But, I still believe that the core issue is hard drive reads.
Sly's suggestion is great. It will help a lot of folks because it changes how much "stuff" needs to be loaded from your hard drive. Guess we just need to do a little more beta testing?
