Why can't I choose a bezel corrected resolution?

Unread postby GeorgeT93 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 4:27 pm

Greetings all,

This question is geared towards the developers, but anyone with a workaround is welcome to chime in.

I have 2 nvidia GTX 460's running across 3 screens using nvidia surround. The monitors are identical 19" models with a native resolution of 1440x900 per screen. This gives me a total resolution of 4320x900 (which IS available to select for Railworks). However, when I set up my nvidia surround, I used the bezel correction feature to create a custom, bezel-corrected resolution of 4480x900. My question is, why can't Railworks see this as an available resolution to use? Is there any way to force it to use the bezel corrected resolution? I just think it a bit odd where triple-monitor setups are supported, that bezel corrected resolutions are not. Obviously, this isn't a deal-breaker, but it was something that I expected would be available with the updated version of Railworks. Shouldn't the game be getting a list of available resolutions from the video card/driver, instead of using a predefined list? Is this something that may be addressed in a future patch? Surely I can't be the only one running Railworks across 3 screens, so I'm sure others that do have experienced this as well.

Any tips, or hope, for getting bezel-corrected resolutions to work?

Thanks!

Are you sure triple-monitor setups are supported?
I have tried making it work in RW2 for days and gave up.
Actually, anything else than single-screen never worked for me.
I have heard no word on it being fixed in RW3.

Hi Chacal,

Yes, I'm sure Railworks works fine with triple-wide resolutions. In the settings screen on the launcher, you can choose the monitor configuration (3x1 for triple-wide), and in the resolution drop-down, it lists triple-head resolutions. I have it set to 4320x900, which works fine (and also worked fine in RW2), but it doesn't list the bezel corrected resolution of 4480x900. As I said, it's not a deal breaker, but it would be really nice to be able to select the proper bezel-corrected resolution so that the image isn't broken up by the bezels. :)

This post by styckx may be of some help:
viewtopic.php?p=23896#p23896

Just keep in mind that it was written for RW2 and not RW3 so things may have changed.

Thanks for the info and link PapaXpress! I'll look into trying that to change the resolution once I'm sure that the devs are done pushing out patches and quick fixes for the new release (so I don't have to keep changing it every time they patch.) Thank you!

Devs, please consider (in a future patch) letting the launcher list valid resolutions from the display driver, so bezel corrected resolutions can be used, and now that the 'test settings' button is gone, it's probably much easier for folks to select a resolution that isn't supported by their machine. Getting a list of valid resolutions from the display driver should prevent users from selecting an unsupported resolution on their hardware.

Thanks again, PapaXpress! I appreciate the info! :)
