BNSF SEATTLE SUBDIVISIONS OUTLINE

Unread postby eyein12 » Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:56 pm

Ok guys,

So as I mentioned before I thought I would sit down and write this up. What I will be mentioning will outline my game plan for the Seattle route. This route will be a mega route; meaning that it will run over 180+ miles form end to end. This will be my final masterpiece, I will not be making anymore routes as far as I know. I maybe doing some asset work here and there, but all of my efforts will be on improving this route as we progress.

The portioned modelled in the first release is 23 miles of track from Seattle to Tukwila,Wa and proceeding to Kent, Wa where there is an amtrak station waiting for you. There is plenty to do in this region and will keep you busy until the next release. Each update will occur on a monthly basis regardless of what I have done and will continue in that fashion for the following year. For those who donate, a link will be sent to you immediately to your email without you having to do anything. I will release the updates a week later on the forums. I will set the min. donation in the readme when the time comes, however this time it will be tier based. those who donated the min get the assets, those who donated more will get 10 standard scenarios included. those who have assets I used will have access to mine as a trade, just like in the soo line.

The route will go from seattle to tacoma, wa. That will be our amtrak/commuter hot route. It will end there, and then I will proceed north of seattle to cover the Bellingham sub north to vancouver canada. So this will also be an international route.

freeware or donationware? Well at this point I actually got most of the licenses I need or will need to make it another donationware route. Any that I dont have for I will include in the freeware assets pack. Charity obviously still involved with this. The night lighting affects are workin out great and seattle will have a nighttime skyline. There is a fair bit of animations going on, and will be plenty more as we progress.

Ive outlined in my blog what will be in the first phase and so far everything is on time and you may get a little more:)

phase 1 will have all route markers in place, siding, platform names, crossings, and primitive signalling.

Phase 2 will include a trip to Kent,Wa where the town will be built up to accompany the station thats already in place. all industries leading to will be complete as well. I will extend the interbay yards to include the west interbay island intermodal and tank yards and building the interbay bridge that connects to the mainland.

phase 3 will include further extensions to Auburn, wa with another amtrak station built from scratch there.

Phase 4 furth southbound work at amtrak sumner station and towns

phase 5 puyallup station and landscapes

phase 6 tacoma amtrak stations inclduing dome station, bay yards etc.

Phase 7 will include opening up the northward journey by building the famous salmon bay bridge and locks. and finishing up the seattle subdivision northward.

2.jpg

Phase 8 will begin work on the Bellingham sub and towns. before making my way onto the sumas sub

phase 9 is all sumas sub to abbots ford canada. mostly rural, small towns and mountains, farmlands etc...

phase 10 will be the connections at Abbots ford, BC where CPR, CN, and BNSF exchange. I will be modelling the CPR abbots ford subdivions to vancouver

phase 11 will be cpr subs and adding stations in starting in coquitain, BC, massive intermodal yards, and more.

so as you can see theres alot of work to make this happen with the attention to detail i usually apply. Anyone willing to help PM me.

My next thing is I will be workign hard to make this the go-to multiplayer route when that comes out. I know you all will like this one. I had alot of fun building it and look forward to building more time allowing. Phase 1 Release date is still Oct 7th

Regards,

Ian

Sounds great. I have a few photos from when I've been in Vancouver over the years.

"phase 10 will be the connections at Abbots ford, BC where CPR, CN, and BNSF exchange. I will be modelling the CPR abbots ford subdivions to vancouver"

A bit of clarification offered (or I misread the above).

The interchange at Sumas(US)/Huntingdon(CA) is to CPRail (CPR) and Southern Railway of BC (SRY). SRY is what used to be the British Columbia Electric Railway (BCER) which then was renamed BC Hydro Railway and later was sold to The Washington Companies, and renamed SRY (MRL is another of their many companies).

Sumas Interchange to CN would probably be taken by SRY to Chilliwack (SRY/CN interchange). BNSF does have an interchange with CN in New Westminster so I think that is where the majority of the BNSF/CN interchange would occur.

The CPR track to Sumas actually is from Mission, BC on the North side of the Fraser River (about nine miles to the North) .

This info was correct a few years ago and I think is still accurate.

Oh, a little nit-pick, Abbotsford is one word ;-)

This certainly does look like a massive project to take on, I wish you well!

thank you for updating us on your project. Make it Payware, start your own RW company, along the lines of 3dtrains and Rich. You have already proven yourself as a master route builder !

As GaryG said, this is a massive project. Best of luck with your project ! Oh, and this probably goes without saying, i cant wait for this one !!*ok*!!

thanks gary for the info!

lets keep in touch so I make sure this stays prototypical. maybe you can forward me some info on that interchange. and do you want me to model the cpr sub to vancouver still? Maybe I misunderstand but are you working on that portion? Being from PA and working on a western states route to canada theres gonna be some inaccuracies. Luckily I have you people to keep me informed!

Hi Ian

I am not a modeler so the answer is no, I am not working on a route; I just thought I might be able to clarify a bit.

I just looked at that area with maps.google.com and the Satellite view does show the area reasonable well. With North up on your screen, and North of the border, the yard and mainline on the right is SRY and on the left is CPR. They maintain the left/right configuration until Clayburn road a couple miles North of Abbotsford where there is a CPR/SRY level crossing. CPR continues towards Mission and SRY turns towards the West.

CPR doesn't go farther than that Huntingdon/Sumas interchange but SRY does continue to Chilliwack, about twenty miles away to the North-East.

A bit of history, before BN/BNSF days, I think the US side of the interchange was used by Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Road and Great Northern.

Later, if you want more info, send me a PM and I can try to assist. That area is about 45 miles East of where I live.
