Sound stopped working...Why me?

After several years of having TS (now running the TS Classic), my sound in game doesn't play. Even the themed song while waiting to load is not playing.

Checked some possible fixes/solutions and so far I have done
1) Reverfied game on steam and it's file (also did a backup)
2) Turned off my anit- virus software
3) Check to make sure my speakers are working...they are.
4) Cleared cache,,,,re started...still nothing.

Any other suggestion to get the sound back..??

worked yesteday,,no problem...today...problem. Didn't upgrade anything, no new downloads

Is this perhaps a similar issue that was discussed on a thread last month?

I did a post about sound issues caused by Norton several weeks ago as that is what killed my sound and I have since found a solution. If you are using Norton, the simplest work around is to run Train Simulator Classic through Big Picture mode in Steam, the sound still works for all modes using that. To use, right click on the Steam Icon on the taskbar which will bring up a list you can select that mode from. Norton is aware of the problem and has said they will try in implement a fix in the future if that is what is causing your sound issue.

I have Norton and Sound Issues suspending Norton did help. Sound works in headphones but not speakers (all other games fine). My workaround until disabling Norton has been to play a you tube video whilst starting game and I get sound! Someone did talk about downloading new OpenAL files - not sure which 32 file to download as they both seem much smaller.
