B&O EM1 2-8-8-4 Interest?

Unread postby scottb613 » Tue Nov 08, 2022 1:01 pm

Hi Folks,

Quick question - I get bored with diesels pretty quick. We have an incredibly gorgeous Mountain Sub route. Has any of the premier steam guys expressed any interest in building steam locomotives - EM1 (or any other appropriate locomotive) for this route?

Thanks.

Regards,
Scott

There are many constraints in making a steam locomotive, which I had faced also.
1. Getting a correct drawing, in case in my country, all drawings are not available so I cannot comment about USA.

2. Getting reference picture from a 3d modeler point of view (not a photographer point of view).

For example -

3. Getting accurate physics and sounds from builder's manual.

Hi...

Thanks... If that's your model - very nice job!

Yep - concur. I'm intimately familiar as I've built a number of steam locomotive models myself (I'm currently working on the B&M R-1-A posted below). I don't model over here with DTG though, I was hoping one of the more talented developers - like Smokebox - had perhaps expressed interest in developing steam for my favorite route with TS - the Mountain Sub. Just curious.

That is a 1676 mm gauge kettle which I have to examine when I visit the museum later this year.

A 1000 mm gauge kettle I once tried to model but failed.

I think it would be neat to have some steam for the B&O mountain sub. EM-1's are often overlooked as is B&O steam in general. Especially with the C&O and N&W next door.

As others have mentioned it always seems to be an uphill battle making steam power in the game but if you can pull it off, more power to you.

I believe Machine Rail has mentioned a B&O S-class 2-10-2 as a future possibility, and an EM-1 would be spectacular as well.

Hi Folks,

Thanks.

Sounds good to me - any steam for that route would be great. You need some serious horsepower for those grades.
