Golf at The Greenbrier (beside the COA)

Unread postby Toripony » Sun Jul 31, 2011 11:06 am

If you have nothing else to watch/listen to today, remember The Greenbrier Classic golf tourney continues on CBS today at 3pm edt (if you can receive U.S. TV). It's also on the Golf channel from 1:00 to 2:30 and then replayed tonight. Lots of views of the Alleghany mountains and you might even catch a shot of a train from the blimp (saw one Thursday). The mountain in view one hole #1 is Kate's mountain, seen in the COA route on your left as you go WB past the golf courses. One of the other holes shows a distance ridge that is a series of humps; that last hump is "High Top" or "White Rock" we call it locally; it's the peak of the mountain creating the south slope of "The Gap" between White Sulphur and Ronceverte. If not for that gap, this valley would be much harder to access and might never have developed as much. That peak is visible from nearly anywhere in the eastern half of Greenbrier County (a great landmark to seek if you get lost on a local backroad).
