Quick question about railworks history.

Unread postby CSX2057 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 12:50 am

I'm looking at Dash 9 and sd70. Already bought Gp9 plus, I added the year from 1941 to 1971 on my WhistleStop Railworks fb page.

I read about Dash 9 debuted in'93 and sd70 in '92

#1. Should I get the dash 9 or sd70?

OR

#2. Should I repaint the gp9's and make it like sd70's?

I just want to keep history together for my railworks.

I say get whatever locomotives appeal to you. This is a simulator and in my opinion, we don't always have to be 100% accurate to real life if we don't want to be. I've been having a lot of fun painting the modern locomotives in the schemes of fallen flag railroads that never owned them:

Still gotta finish up those Southern Railway and Chessie SD70s *!embar*!

That's just my two cents.

The sd70 pictures are nice :D. I am going to do some repaints on the gp9. The engine sound is awesome, but I wish I can get a copy from the sd70 horn and place it onto the gp9.

I might buy the sd70...idk.

???? Like a sd70? In case you didn't understand what i'm saying. I want to repaint the gp9 like the sd70 logo photos above. Not the body frame.

Anyway, Is there a way I can get a copy of the sd70 new horn and add it to the gp9? I really really like it.

I am going to buy that sd70 vol2 locomotives. Since you showed me that chessie system i've always wanted. Nice job on that repaint. I am going to do some repaints on the gp9 for chessie system, bnsf (with the line underneath), conrail, ns, csx and others. First time repainting this year :D

Can't wait to see the results of this thread! Love that Chessie SD70! There's something about the paint that looks odd to my eye though... can't quit put my finger on it, but I think it might be that yellow. Did Chessie ever go quite that light with the yellow? I'm not sure... maybe it's the red... there's just something about the paint that doesn't match any of my memory bank cells. Still, I love it and want one! !*brav*!

I'm fairly sure though, that a Chessie GP9 is perfectly proto; the three railroads (CO, BO, WM) all had a bunch of geeps. I saw many diff engines painted with Chessie paint during the late 70's and early 80's.

Does this look better?

This one has been sidelined for nearly a month but now that I got you two all excited about it, I guess it's only fair that I try to get it done. It will only have static road numbers though so will 7 of them be enough?

And just a heads up CSX, this Chessie repaint uses the Union Pacific SD70ACe as it's base and that comes in the first SD70 pack, not the Vol. 2 pack.

That does look better. See if I can guess.... you made the yellow a tiny bit "orangier"? I think that's it... throughout their changes of shades over the years, the yellow has always had some varying degree of orange in it.

7 units is good; I run this in pairs as headers on the COA... pretty proto with the Ronceverte stationed ES4400AH pushing.

Tori
p.s. (THAT's what I've been trying to remember to ask Gordon for.... a repaint to represent the AH modified pusher; I'll add the extra 20,000 lbs to the weight and maybe someone can help adjust the wheel slip setting. "Hey, Gordon....."
