Horns--Is there a way?

Is there a way to make AI trains automatically sound their horns at crossings? Would be a really neat addition if possible! *!question!*

Unfortunately not.
Hope for the Big Update, though I'd say it's very unlikely. How do you want the AI to recognize where a crossing is?

This sounds like a very cool idea to me. :) I haven't done any kind of development for anything in RW, so I don't know if it's possible, but I'd think if trigger objects could be placed, like a rectangle from one "horn" sign to the next, and have the AI sound it's horn whenever it's in the trigger area, that could get the job done. Of course, I have no idea if RW supports 'triggers' and such when building a scenario, and even if it does support triggers, the horn may not be something that can currently be assigned as an action in a trigger area. But who knows, maybe something they could add in the future, as I do think it would be very cool and add a bit to the immersion.

We have discussed making horns sound at whistleboards in the past; apart from having to rescript every engine ( and whistle board ) out there, I can't think of any particular reason it wouldn't work.

I was thinking along the line of some kind of anchor or marker placed in the tracks prior to reaching a crossing. I have no idea what it would involve or how to do it, but it would really add to the atmosphere!

Doing it that way round has problems, you only have one horn for all types of train...
