AI question

Unread postby kcs_fan » Tue Jul 05, 2011 7:33 am

I was curious to know if an AI train can be run continuously, without stopping at a destination on a closed loop of track. Hard to describe, but my town has double tracks all the way from end to end. I'd like to put a loop at each end of the double track so the trains travel the loop and come back through town on the opposite track. Any ideas???

I don't see why it wouldn't work, of course you'd have to make sure that the player train and other AI do not conflict.

With AIs, don't you have to set a destination for it to travel? And when it gets there it stops? I'm not sure how that would work. I see if you put it destination on the track across.

I hesitate to suggest this because I have heard its a pain to use, but why not use Portals?

Haven't tested this but I think I would put the destination off on a siding, then a marker on the M/L after the siding. In the scenario just keep sending it to that marker over and over (and over, etc) until you get tired of creating new instruction lines. Of course, eventually, it will have to go to the destination to end then scenario.

(Now... the calculations... 10 miles of M/L, looped via 10+ mile "background" track takes 30 mins to complete at ....... lol)

Thanks so much for the comments! As far as portals go, I haven't been able to get one of those to work right yet.
