Virus on Steam

Many people including myself were sent a steampromotion DOT com link which is a "contest" to send people the link to win steam gift cards. I found out it is a virus so don't click it.

I changed my steam password and the PC seems to be holding up. I also have Steam guard on my account.

Everyone on Steam posted their status saying don't click it and also when you click the link it tells you thet site is not verified by valve.

All external links come up with that warning message. If you give someone RWA's link it will do that.

Could also be a phishing attempt to access your account information and retrieve whatever account and payment data they can lay their hands on.

The domain is registered to a company "Whoisguard Inc." in Panama. So, yeah.

Definitely keep your mouse far away from that link.

In a way, treat your Steam account like you would a bank account. Same as your bank won't ever send you unsolicited email with "contests", so will not Steam. If in doubt, any information about which events/sales/whatever are currently happening will always be available on the actual Steam website or through the client, so there is no danger of "missing out" on anything by simply ignoring those emails.
