Cheap DLC?

Unread postby Whatzizname » Sun May 15, 2016 9:52 pm

Hey guys, I am posting after lurking for a few months.

So I have hit a problem which i cannot get over.
I live in Australia.
That means the conversion rate for AUD to USD is complete crap
we cannot get any BNSF DLC
and also I dont exactly have a lot of money because nobody wants to hire someone who is working on getting through the HSC (High School Certificate)

I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me find places for cheap DLC and maybe access to the BNSF items.
G2A is not an option because the price conversion doesnt differ too much from the prices on Steam.

Can you guys help?
Thanks in Advance =D

Watching for the sales on Steam, Gamersgate, and Green Man Gaming are the only options I know for for getting more for your money.

The file library here has some really great repaints that are easy to install and come with good instructions.
Obo's RailWorks Locomotive Catalog http://railworks.banal.net/catalog/catalog.html has free repaints as well, some are for older models.
Digirails is another source for repaints http://s1.zetaboards.com/DigiRails_Forums/index/

There are a few more links I can get but I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions shortly.

When you say DLC, do you mean only official DLC from Steam, or do you include 3rd-party stuff?

I feel the same pain. I am down here too. The thing that annoys me is the lack of choice when it comes to Steam purchases. The A$ exchange rate is quite weak against the US$ at the moment and Clear Creek ended up costing $5 more to purchase in US $ than if we had been given the option of buying in GBP as advertised on the TS website. Wouldnt be so bad if the funds went to the developer, but they dont, they just go to the bank. Even so, it was worth the money (to me anyway)

As for the diseasels, you can feel that pain alone :D , but I am not sure there is a work round on the BNSF stuff. Like any hobby, it costs a little money. Currently here is SA they are advertising HO ready to run 1936 Centenary cars at $140 a unit, when you think you will need 3-4 per train and obviously a few for static, there goes $1000.

Saving for something gives a greater sence of apreciation.

!*cheers*!

Are not your steam DLC prices shown in Aussie dollars. In NZ Steam prices are shown in NZ Dollars so no worries of conversion rates to US dollars which hits us harder than you Aussies. It has actually put me off sites that don't show currency in NZ dollars. Take for example Just Trains Railjet loco when converted to NZ dollars would cost me about $75 US as they advertise outside the UK and Europe in US Dollars.

I don't want to sound mean but there is enough free stuff in the library here and other places to keep anyone busy for a lifetime. Sometimes in life if you can't afford to eat steak you have to have patience and eat noodles.

Every time a thread like this pops up I start wondering how the prices of DLC for other games and sims sold on Steam compare to those that DTG asks for TS add-ons.

Unfortunately, that's how life is currently for half the Planet, our conversion rates against the US Dollar have been extremely poor here in Britain for nearly 12 months, but, we have to accept it at the moment. Study the 3rd party websites, especially, for seasonal sales, which are fairly regularly throughout the year. The German website Trains & Drivers stocks BNSF branded locomotives to get round this licence issue for us folks who live outside the US, I don't think you can get them any other way, regrettably. http://www.trains-and-drivers.net/epage ... =60&Page=1
You haven't told us what your favourite types of locomotives are, the best suggestion is to have a look round for reskins of a particular diesel, a GP15 for example, you might be able to pick up 4, or, 5, free repaints, which makes buying the alias original model more financially economical, than obtaining a locomotive that nobody has done a repaint for, make a list of what you want/like and see what's out there and make good use of your money, some of these DLC locomotives come with freight wagons, so, you can have a look to see if folks have repainted those as well recently, I'm sure you can find something suitable if you look around. Many of us veterans on here who have been playing this game for several years will also tell you that there just aren't enough hours in the day to play with everything, so, you don't need to rush out and buy everything there is available on Steam immediately, take your time, build up your library steadily as funds become available.
