Any Aussies here?

Unread postby SAR704 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 4:44 am

I was just wondering, are there any Australian folks here on this forum? As a long time MSTS user until recently, I noticed that a lot of MSTS users have simply left the scene, rather than move on to Railworks or another train sim. It's a bit saddening, as the MSTS Railpage forum used to be a well utilised place to interact with quick response times, and continuous discussion. Now it's virtually a ghost town.

I was thinking, would it be viable to have an sub forum for any Australian content in the works? I've got something going, but it'll be a little while before it gets into the development stage where I can actually justify posting screens of it. Now that I've resolved the issue with the custom 3'6 gauge track, and the other lofts such as fences and embankments, it's pretty much ready to go.

One day, I might have a try at a locomotive, but that's a little while off. Just want to finish a 10 mile section for now to get things started.

There's a few Aussies around (self included). If you dig around there's Australian rail works sites too, but they're not very active.

Keep an eye on UKTRAINSIM for route design, as Australia borrowed a lot of UK know how re signalling. But RWA is a good home for Aussie rolling stock. Apart from the steam era when we mostly made our own locos, a majority of private operators in Aus imported and adapted US engines, either building around them or importing bodies wholesale. Our electrified routes are very European in design, but our freight routes have more US heritage.

Hi mate...

I am here - and have been for a long time. !!*ok*!!

I migrated from MSTS after an upgrade to my Win Pc for some reason refused to let MSTS run and after the death of Alan Lownsborough (responsible for the amazing SAR route) which I had been testing etc, decided to focus on US steam (what there is of it !*not-ok*! ) Been waiting and waiting on a DRG narrow gauge route (other than the Durango & Silverton which I worked on with Rick in source material & testing).

Given your user name I assume you are somewhere around Adelaide (but then you know what happens when you assume !*roll-laugh*! ) If so, me too :D

Now its the VNHRR, **!!bow!!** , in all its steam age glory, the RWA (if we can get Wayne to finish up his mods !*roll-laugh*! , but I know he has been working on the VNHRR with Michael & Bob) and now Ricks Vermont

!*cheers*!

Howdy

Yeah I'm from SA. I created the SA Midnorth and Barossa route which was released in 2008. The NNG got sent to Yuri Sos around 2012-2013 but wasn't released due to his commitments to other things. It's been about a year since I last used MSTS on Win 7, but fortunately I've had a bit of success in recent months with getting things to work properly in Railworks. I just need enough devotion to continue with the project I started recently to get at least 1 section of the line done to see how things go.

Nice to know that I'm not the only South Aussie who uses TS2016. Which aspect of the game are you mainly into? Running trains, creation or both?

Hi mate...

If my memory serves, you are Michael ? I remember your Barossa route, it was a beauty - I did some photography for Alan around the Barossa while he was working with you on it, on vineyards etc. It is a small world !!*ok*!!

Dont get as much time as I would like. I do some running, like to do some scenerio writing and am currently testing for a developer (what and for whom I can not say) Seem to have done a bit of testing for various people during my time...

!*salute*!

Hot to forget Mike Simpson, developer of the wonderful and indespensible RW_Tools. He may not have seen this post, I think he focuses on posts in his own section for RW_Tools.

Yeah, that's correct. I remember him mentioning how he was being asked frequently if he was going to extend to route past Gawler, but his answer was no due to his awareness that there was another route (the WIP wasn't yet publicised) in the works that covers this area. The actual work in the RE, photography etc was mainly my work, but Allan did make a big contribution in other aspects.

Unfortunately, the Northern Narrow gauge never got released after it was sent to Yuri Sos in around 2013, but I am sort of working on a line that is close to the Peterborough to Quorn line. It's just the first town that is a nightmare to model :D . In Railworks, you need detail, otherwise it'll look like a 2001 route, so quite a few more buildings to add to the collection for the MSTS representation of the town.

BTW, this one won't have overhanging station buildings on a platform that is too narrow like at Salisbury :D . For some reason, this managed to go unnoticed and the route was released with this obvious error. Still annoys me a bit to this day.
