M8 Kawasaki FPS issues workaround

Unread postby Havner » Fri Oct 31, 2014 3:02 pm

I've found a way to mitigate the low FPS on the M8 Kawasaki. This is a scripting issue after all, not the model as they try to tell us (to justify the delay).

This "fix" makes the Update() script run 3 times per second instead of 20+ increasing the FPS from below 15 to 30-40 on my machine.
It is incompatible with my TrainSim Helper at the moment. I'll release another version for it soon.

Be wary though, I don't know all the implications of this workaround. It might break the loco at some point although I think you should be fine. I have not tried to finish the scenarios with it yet.

Tell me please if it works for you.

Not too bad. It still has a "herky jerky" motion to it. But, it is more tolerable. I haven't tried to run an entire scenario with this yet. I only started one and ran a few minutes of it to see. I'll let you know when I've gotten to test it out for a full scenario or two. Thanks for the effort. I really wish DTG would hurry up with the real fix for it.

Hello again. Ok. I ran a short scenario"Short Trip to New Canaan" and it ran fine from start to finish. Smooth FPS rate. I didn't look to see what the rate was. But, it was surely much better than it was before I installed the "work around". So, pretty good so far.

Better late than never, I downloaded and installed this mod today. On my new laptop (specs below) I get 9 FPS without the mod, and 21-23 FPS after installation. The scenario itself, however, seems to run choppy. It speeds up and slows down as though the motor was surging. Even with the mod, the frame rate is very much below what I'm getting with the rest of TS2015, which is 40-60 FPS on most scenarios, and higher on several others. Definitely worth trying though, and thanks for your efforts.
