Getting Started with Steam Workshop

Unread postby wacampbell » Sun Jul 07, 2013 2:37 pm

I am thinking about downloading some activities via Steam Workshop for the Marias Pass route. I have figured out how to access it and navigate to the activity I am interested in, but I am wondering about a few things:

1. How do I know what rolling stock is needed for the activity. I see some that clearly use locomotives that are not included in Marias Pass, but the activity description doesn't mention where to get them.

2. It appears to 'get' the activity I must 'subscribe' to it ( seems an odd term for this function ). Is there a cost for this subscription?

3. And if there are other 'payware' rolling stock needed, is there any risk that it will start downloading these and charge me for them? Or does it give plenty of warning before hitting up your credit card?

Thanks

When they say "subscribe" they are using the Queen's English. It just means download.
If do not meet the requirements it will tell you so.

1. If you browse the workshop from the in-game menu, it will tell you whether you have the DLC to run the scenario or not after you subscribe to it. If you have it, it will be a green check and if you do not, it will be a red X.

The necessary items are also listed in the tag list on the right side when you view a specific item in the workshop.

2. There is no cost to use any of the workshop items beyond what DLC is necessary (if any).

3. My understanding is that if you do not have DLC needed to run the scenario, it just won't run. You will have to manually go to the store and purchase any necessary DLC you don't own.
