Colombia & Cowlitz (CLC)

Hey fellas. I'm looking to have a go at creating the CLC Woods Line and yards in Longview. Plenty of dockside and industry. Various small yards all along a main line (UP BNSF) in a short distance so lots going on. Add to this the climb up the woods line to silver lake landfill and maybe even as far as Toutle wood mill ( closed 2007 ? ) Its all pretty much just what i'd like to while a few hours switching on in Reppos GP20 in blue and white CLC colours. Well that's the plan anyway.

So why this post. Well i'm from the UK and very much only just hooked into American Railroads so my knowledge is....not very knowledgeable. I'm happy to follow contours on maps to get an idea of gradients but if anyone knew of a track chart out there for the line, that would be something. I know little of US signals and was wondering which route in TS would have the most appropriate. Also if anyone knows of any hidden web pages or books magazines to do with the CLC and could point me in the right direction that would be great too.

I realise people who read this may have nothing to offer which is fine but I thought i'd ask just in case before I start. Nothing worse than getting good info when its too late. Thanks all the same.

I dont think signals would be a problem, as there are none on the CLC.

Good to know none on the CLC. Still need them on the mainline though as I wanted to include yards and sidings as far as I can. At least as far as Kalma due to all the lines alongside the river.

Hi there,

I like your choice of route! That line should offer a little bit of everything for the user.

I can't find any charts or information posted about the gradients on the line, but there is some very accurate terrain data available from the USGS site for this area. You should be able to lay track to follow the terrain in game, and have it be fairly close to the prototypical grade profile.

I did mean to ask about terrain data so that's great that its available. Were spoilt in the Uk as we get ordnance survey maps actually on Bing maps which is very useful. Thanks for your post, very helpful.

Sounds like a worthwhile route to take on, especially for those of us who are dedicated switchers, but I have to admit that at first I misread your subject as "Columbia & Cowlick".
