My backups that are inside Steam are not touched.

Did you look to see if anything was actually changed? I have seen where they were checked but unchanged.

Yes. I know from test driving the engines and stock from the effected DLC. I also looked in the folders and the mods are written over or completely gone, depending on whether it was a modified .ap DLC or DLC that hasn't been archived yet.

And in what way would these translation changes and thumbnails have caused all the supposed chaos described above???

Dunno, all I know is that like Buzz, my mods and changes work as they did before. The update yesterday was the first I got in more than a week. And it seems unlikely that DTG would know where to look for software that is outside of their own folder/files structure and remove it, as in some countries that constitutes as an illegal activity.

> Donner Pass turned into AP archive
That was the bulk of the 300 MB update (for those who have that specific route), as the thumbnails and manuals are not that big, but the AP file includes the whole route.

My virgin Steam install also got a 700 MB plus update this morning, including Donner Pass.

First verification straight thereafter found no files missing or changed.
Second verification a little later found >9000 files missing or changed and resulted in another 500 MB plus download.

This has been going on ever since Sept. 19. Again Steam is messing about with the 3DTrains\Scalerail folders.

I wonder if game verification is still valid or just a waste of time and bandwith?

Edited 2 hours later:
A third verification again found 9K files missing or changed on the install I updated just this morning and had verified twice already. It seems Steam is touching the same files over and over again, apart from those listed a few posting above. Perhaps one shouldn't conduct multiple verification the same day? I had stopped and restarted the Steam client in between rounds.

Except that Donner Pass was already in a .ap archive...
And my mods being removed is not supposed, and others have had other strange things tampered with.
A lot of files not on that list got overwritten or removed, depending on what kind of folder structure was being used.
That's why I posted that snip.
The Sept 27 date shown is when I last copied backups with mods and fixes into place.
the Sept 29 files, are the Simulation and Engine folders that were found and modified back to default.
If the DLC was already in a .ap format like Donner already was, then they found the mods in the external folders and deleted the mod, but left the folder tree intact. If a person just glanced at the external folder tree, you wouldn't know the mods had been deleted. I had to click down the path to find out the mods had been emptied from their particular folder.
IE. the simulation bins had been deleted from the Assets/RSC/DonnerPass/RailVehicles/Dielsel/SD40T-2/Default folder tree outside the .ap file for Donner... That wasn't the only DLC or engine that happened to.

I was only half joking when I said I feel we've been mass hacked.

Ummmm.... wasn't Donner Pass already a compressed .ap file under TS2014? In TS2013 I used to have Simmer's SD40-2 sounds in there for the SD40T-2. TS2014 wiped that out and honestly I was too lazy to unzip the .ap file and reinstall the sounds.

Yes. Some people keep saying that was the major part of the "update" but Donner was most definitely in .ap format for at least a year.
You can still run the mods.
You either open the .ap file with something like 7-Zip and drag the file in. In which case it will automatically compress it down when you close 7-Zip.
Or, you can just copy the mods with the folder tree in place. IE you can copy the Audio folders, couplers or whatever from a backup, into the Donner Pass folder. The program will still read those mods, even though they are outside the .ap archive.

I just copy the whole Assets folder, minus the Kuju folder, into the new Assets. That's how I reinstall my mods.
As Bob had pointed out a few days ago, the Kuju folder has change because of the new weather. So I just copy and paste the RailVehicles folder from RailSimulatorUS into the new RailSimulatorUS folder. That leaves the scenery assets etc alone. I may have had to copy one of the audio folder over like that too.

So I'm guessing if the sounds are inserted into the .ap file, it will fail it's checksum during a Steam verify and overwrite with the original .ap file. The same verify issue would occur if those files were outside the .ap file as well?

I know the SD40T-2 has it's own folder for it's sound. I thought it would just somehow reference the sound from the SD40-2 folder, but I guess that's not how it works. I have to copy the sounds for the BNSF SD40-2 as well as the Marias Pass BN SD40-2 too it would seem.

Does Railworks allow for global referencing of a single sound set for use by many different locos so I don't have to have multiple copies of Simmer's sounds on disk? They don't take up massive disk space, but cutting down on redundant files simplifies things.

It would appear that the stuff outside of the .ap is not changed. This is anecdotal information however my Kuju F7 folder was not changed by the update while the .ap folder was updated on 9/29. I need to go poke around on some of the RSC stuff where I made changes but this is encouraging so far.

Not sure what this update was suppose to fix? But it broke 90% of my routes !*not-ok*! Even default routes like Castle Rock, third party routes like Durango & Silverton, Fraser and Cariboo and Freeware routes like the BAY-OF-QUINTE and the Moscow, Camden and San Augustine will not load and just crash the game to the desk top. This gets very old and very tiring. If you have to verify the game after every update, what is the point? The updates are suppose to fix problems, not cause more problems and headaches. **!!bang!!**

Oh boy, I just found another one that the "update" undid.
Just the bins nothing else.
This was directed. There was more to this "update" than meets the eye.

Here's what the dates looked like before.
Strange coincidence both dates are the 29th although one is yesterday the mod was done and packaged in July.
