Does the amount of fuel in a loco affect its weight?

I have a train that struggles up hills and was wondering, if I don't use very much fuel at all, will setting the fuel level to 20% instead of 100% make the net weight lower? Is that taken into account at all? The train in question has six heads on it and can barely hit half the speed limit. If I remove 80% of the fuel from all six locos, surely it should make a noticeable impact on the net weight, assuming it does affect it.

A guess is a full fuel tank might account for two or three percent of a loco's weight (seven pounds per gallon of diesel).

The weight of the fuel in six locos would still be less than one maximum loaded freight car; this is assuming about 5,000 pounds of fuel per loco.

5000 * 7 * 6 = 210000 or 105 tons. Todays loaded cars can be well over that weight.

Will the Quick Drive custom consist editor be of any help and use?

It shows train length and weight, and by manually editing with RW_Tools of ConsistTemplates.bin in the Content folder, you can change Loaded from 1 to 0 and back.
See if the QD consist changes its weight.

AFAIK, in the engine blueprint the CargoComponent defines a fuel tank capacity. There is no mention of the fuel's weight, unless the simulation engines calculates that out of the specific density of the type of fuel in the tank.
