Alco C420 sounds

I am communicating with DTM about the idea of creating the Alco Century models. They are open to the idea but require original sounds recorded from these locomotives. If anyone has access to record some live Alco C420, C424, or C425 engines please let me know. Apparently this is the major reason that we don't have these engines in game. I am hoping to find engine sounds in idle and running states pulling a load. It would also be nice to know what horns they come with so that they can be added as well.

Well there are a few shortlines with operating C420s, and there are videos on youtube of a C420 horn. (I think that the horn model is preference of the railroad correct?)

Unfortunately though, the engine sounds are not very good and I can see DTM's point on the issue.

That is why I am hoping that when I get moved back to the Midwest that Arkansas & Missouri railroad will grant me access to their repair shop and record some engine sounds in a controlled environment instead of standing beside the tracks.

Those shortlines operating the ALCo's need them constantly moving. They don't have the massive locomotive reserves that the big railroads do. GL getting close to 1.

Apparently the RS11 and the C420 run practically the same engine. The RS11 runs an Alco 251B V12 diesel engine while the C420 runs a 251C V12. The RS11 produces 1,800 horsepower while the C420 produces 2,000 horsepower. There is a strong chance then that the two engines sound the same. So, maybe we could get an engine sound upgrade for the RS11 as well as the C420 out of this.

They do sound quite similar, the problem is the c420 is the exception to the century sound and not the rule.
RS-11 (also applies to the RS-18)

Gawd these were satisfying to watch.
Old diesels belching black smoke and making a huge racket.

I along with some other developers are working on these units as we speak. Stay tuned!

This is certainly welcome news and I will be delighted if you pull it off. Bit I've heard this a few times before and it never actually happened so I will stay at a prudent optimism level.
BTW, if you do suceed, don't bother making a clean version. There never was a clean C420, I believe they built them already rusted and grimy.

Sorry to disagree Chacal, there was one clean one. The Green Bay Western only had one C420 and it was (as was the rest of the fleet of Alcos) kept clean(ish). GBW had pride in their Alco’s.

They shouldn't do that. A clean Alco is like my son on his school photos with clean button-up shirt and combed hair. It just isn't him.

Horn is definitely railroad specific. For example DL (LV) 414 has a Nathan K3L.
