No Sound in my game.

Unread postby Railroy19 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 5:08 pm

I'm having a problem with the ts2015 or ts2014 has no sound.
My computer speakers work fine in everything else but I get no sound from the game.
I don't know if anything is shut off.
Anyone know what I can turn on to get the sound working?
Trains is not much fun in the silent mode *!sad!*

Thanks,
Bob

Never had this problem before.
I'll give that a try and see if it helps.
Sure a lot of work to play a game. I spend more time trying to fix problems that I do running trains.
I think I'm going to play the game offline from now on.
This getting to be one problem after another. *!mad!*

When this happens I just restart the game.

Many of us have this occasional “no sound” condition upon loading the sim. As Chacal states, simply re-starting the game usually restores the sound.

With my setup, occasionally it’s also necessary to clear the Cache (Settings >Tools - top right on opening screen) before re-starting. On rare occasions, if there is still no sound upon re-start I have to re-start the computer as well. And rarer still, doing a Verify Cache along with all the other steps restores the sound.

If you have no sound no matter what you do, first check the Audio Settings in the game. Also check your sound card settings if you have a discrete card, and your computer's sound settings to see if something needs to be changed, possibly something specific to game playing, etc. If you have sound with your other games/applications, most likely the solution lies elsewhere. Others here may be able to make better technical suggestions.

I agree with you, sound is important to the sim.

Good luck.

Not for all to understand but I am making note.
Ever since TS2014, I have to use the "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS" -ShowSoundDeviceSelector which allows choice of system sound device.
I use a Creative Sound blaster card with 5.1 surround and it's the only way I can get surround sound playing the game.
Start the game, the screen goes blank, hit your Win/Start key on keyboard, you will see a select sound window on desktop, then I select Creative, hit OK, back to game. I now have surround sound when playing. Pain in the 'you know what' but got use to doing it and it works well and I got to have my surround sound!
I found no other way to do it. !*don-know!*

P.S.
Used to have a OpenAL32.dll in the main RailWorks folder with the 2014 update. It was still there after the 2015 update. I would have some of my sound quit during game play. Like engine idle disappear or wagon sounds disappear randomly. For the heck of it I moved the OpenAL32.dll file out of the RailWorks folder and I have no sound issues at all. I still have to start game as described above for surround sound.
Just wanted to make note about the OpenAL32.dll file that I don't think we need. **!!2cents!!**

XDriver is correct, and I have found that one way to "fix" sound issues in TS2015 is to install the latest sound drivers, then rename or delete the openAL32.dll in the \Railworks folder.
Reboot windows and when TS2015 opens it now uses the "Windows" version of openAL32.dll and this is usually more stable.
Worth a try.

Never have any problems with my Realtek on board sounds except when I do a save driving a Steam loco in outside view after resuming. Half the sounds are not there but, when I go back to cab view they return.

I will see if I can download new drivers for my sound. However right now my sound works fine for any other game that I have in the computer.
I thought that if it works ok on anything else the problem was in TS2015. *!question!*
My computer has been acting up a lot lately. I did see on this forum another person is having the same problem as me. I'm going to search for that post and see if he solved the problem.
Thanks for the help.

The sounds in TS have always been flakey. A couple of versions a go the sounds of your train would stop whith an approaching train and when passed they would return. All you heard was the passing trains sounds.

I am always amazed at some of these issues. I have TS2015 installed on two different computers and have never had a problem with the sound.

They are better than they use to be. Bit like the smoke issue coming from multiple diesels, a few versions a go only the front one had smoke coming from it, now they all have smoke coming from them.

I have received some instructions for trying to fix my problem from DTG Support.
They said to clear the blueprints cache and verify the game cache, which I did already several times.
Did not help at all. *!sad!*
I went back to my old computer and hooked up to the internet and loaded up TS 2015 and it worked fine on the old computer and the sound worked also.
SOOOO! Now I have to figure out how to get this computer to work the way it should.
I just had an idea to delete this game from this computer and reload it again **!!bang!!**
Do you guys and girls think this could fix the problem or am I just wasting precious time???

Confused!!

It may seem silly, but have you checked the audio settings in the game?
