Krellnut wagon sounds for Saluda Grade rolling stock

Unread postby jalsina » Sat May 11, 2024 10:43 am

I have not seen there are yet available Krellnut wagon sounds for the Saluda Grade route cars.

Find attached in this post a zip file for that purpose. The zip contains a rwp you can install by using Utilities located in the Railworks folder, or directly use 7z to install it in Assets.

Many of the Krellnut sound applications are located here in some threads of the forum. If Buzz or Chacal think it should be in the library (as other similar files I have posted there), PM me and I will prepare a readme to go with the file.

All credits for this go to Walter Jaeschke (Krellnut).

The RWA library also has several other packages for adding Krellnut's wagon sounds to new routes.

*!!thnx!!* Chacal and Buzz. !*cheers*!

Something I did not include in the readme. Don´t forget to enable WJ Sound in your assets for the scenario.
Actually, you can do this at route level, and it will be available for all the existing and future scenarios of Saluda Grade. !!howdy!!

Thanks for this.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know what the specific differences are between the Krellnut sounds from the file library and the ones DTG have and which we've used in most of our routes? Is DTG's perhaps just an older version or are there other big differences?

Cheers,
Michael

Mainly sound level. The Krellnut sounds are louder and more realistic in my opinion. Never have understood why they made them softer.

Difference (to me) is like comparing a great stereo sound set with an old monaural set.
I have found that the only ones that sound closer to Krellnut wagon sounds, are those of the freeware JR cars distributed in the Searchlight Simulations site. But even so, Krellnut´s are better in my opinion. DTG has never used good freight sounds.

They have 5 different spare bins (for different types of cars) and you can program frequency and loudness of defective wheels noises.
They are intended for US freight cars, but years ago I used them for European freight (after listening at a real-life video sounds).

I don´t understand why DTG, after so many years, has not yet got to an agreement with Walter Jaeschke (Krellnut) to include them in their rolling stock.

But DTG is lately doing better with diesel locomotives engine sounds (like those in Saluda) though far from Searchlight Simulations sound enhancements. Still their horns remain a joke (when comparing with Searchlight Simulations and other third parties).

Other than the model and repaint look, sounds are maybe as important as physics.

Krellnut sounds have been used in the B&A, so there must be some sort of agreement already.

I have purchased three routes lately: Tehachapi, FRCE and Saluda and all have old wagon sounds from 10 years ago (or before).
