P30CH Sound Replacement Pack

Unread postby StrategyFirst » Tue Sep 22, 2015 7:38 pm

I just finished with a P30CH sound pack. Since the P30CH was dying to get some audio love, and JMH Studio's horn wasn't enough for me, I thought I'd make a sound set. It includes:

  • Two horns
  • A bell (credits to JMH Studios)
  • Engine sound replacement

This is my very first crack at sound editing and replacements, so I hope you enjoy my first piece of work! :D

Here's a video of the sounds in action. Also, Mike Kam is going to test the sounds and (maybe) package it with his physics mod (thanks, Mike!). Enjoy!

I like the recordings but they do they sound too much like an EMD?

I feel that the sounds are more fit for an F40PH.

You'll hear the iconic GE chug as the train moves away. Skip to about 0:40. :D

Yeah, I used sounds from that one too, but nothing clear for engine sounds. If you can find me some nice and clear chugging, I'd much prefer that as well.

Thanks for the appreciation. I'm so glad you love the sounds. *!rolleyes!*

I'm not an expert in sound design by any means, but you might have better luck getting recordings off of other locomotives that use the same type of prime mover. Wikipedia says it would be a 7FDL16 but I have no idea if that's correct or not, and of course each different type of locomotive might have subtle differences in their sound.

The sounds you've used in your pack seems to be the sound of the HEP generator in either the F40PH or the Pooch itself, rather than the actual prime mover.

Use those nice Dash 7 sounds :D You should be able to get them with the C36-7 on DigiRails or the U36B Sound/Physics upgrade here on RWA. !!*ok*!!
Maybe combine some of the recordings so the HEP sounds are present as well

I'll do some more research and see if I can raise the quality of the sound in the video linked. You're right, it does sound like an F40PH. There's very little audio media of P30CH's left (at least easily findable).

The new chug is beautiful! Sounds much more real! I'll upload a video when I get back home. :D

UPDATE: Here's a short video of the updated engine. I love this chug so much more! Thank you for directing me to more accurate sounds~ !*salute*! (This video is still uploading as of writing this, so please be patient. I will be away while it finishes uploading.)

StrategyFirst's P30CH mod has been incorporated with my Physics mod and is hosted in the freeware release forum.
