Run-Time Error 6: Overflow

Unread postby rush079 » Tue Aug 25, 2015 9:08 am

Hey Mike,

Since I installed windows 10 I Always get a "Runtime error 6: Overflow" when I trie to swap locs or wagons in the ëdit scenario" tab.
Beside this annoying popup: the check box in the start screen "do not in future" does not seem to work when I check this box.
In the option menu: I can't set the PDF reader path and "Start with editor maximised" does not work.

I already tried the following: Uninstalled and installed the newest version from scratch as an administrator.
Runned the program as an administrator. But this does not do the job.

I'm along time user (about 5-6 years) and never have had these problems with windows 7 and 8.1.
I don't know what to do next. Maybe you can help me with this.
I have a license under the name of Frans Hofstede.

My system specs:
Windows 10
Intel I5 4670K processor
16GB of Ram
256 GB SSD
Asus Nvidia GTX 980 strixx.
Asus Sabertooth Z87 motherboard.

English is not my native language.

Thank you for your attention. Frans

Hi Frans,

From the above, it appears that the file RWPreferences.txt is NOT being written to your RW_Tools folder in Windows 10 - all of the options you mention here are written to that file.

I had similar problems after first installing Windows 10 and solved as under:-
1. Make sure RW_Tools is not in folders like C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86), preferably have it in something like D:\Rail Utilities\RW_Tools
2. Right click on the RW_Tools.exe and select Properties/Compatability and tick the box at the bottom to always run as administrator, click Apply
3. Right click on the above Rail Utilities folder and select Properties/Security, select your user name, e.g. Users
4. Click edit and allow Full Control for yourself and also Authenticated Users

I think that it should then work.

HI Mike,
Thank you for your quick responding.

I did again a new install with run as administrator checked during installl.

1. RW_Tools is now at C:\ Rail Utilities\RW_Tools
2. Also run the RW_TOOLS.exe as administrator selected.
3. Done
4. Done.

RWPreference.txt is present in the RW_Tools folder.
But the same proplems exist:
1. runtime error 6 overflow when I return to the main screen after swapping stock in the edit scenario menu.
2. In the option menu "start with editor maximised" does not work.

Any other ideas?

Maybe the program as it is now is not compatible with windows 10?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Frans,

I only use Windows 10 here and have done so for the past 6 months or so since the first beta was released.

Can you email me your RWPreferences.txt file as an attachment to an email to
rwtools at optusnet.com.au

and I will see if I can see what is happening.
