Latest version of RW TOOLs will not show the Rascal to Cottonwood rte.

Unread postby LionelDave » Mon Jun 01, 2015 7:52 pm

I went to use RW Tools and it told me there was a newer version; So i installed the newer version and it seem to go OK but then I wanted to edit a scenario in my Rascal to cottonwood route but RW Tools does NOT show the route any more.

I tried several things including going to the RW Tools web site (I couldn't find anything I could use so I and click on a link to leave a message and my computer locked up trying to connect to the link.

So any Idea what I can do next since I can't leave a message. I really like/need RW tools and I need the Rascal to cottonwood route.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mike is "down under" so he's on a different time. Hang in there. I'm sure he will get back to you shortly.

This route has been archived in a .ap file since July 2014.
It is in railworks\Content\Routes\60c6e568-0c60-4952-be1f-867a2a69212f.

RW-Tools cannot see inside .ap files so you need to extract the routeproperties.xml file from each.

Fortunately this is easily done using RW-Tools itself.
1- Go to Files / Find all .ap files. You'll get a window with a list of .ap files, some of which are in red.
2- Click on the last button on the right to select all MainContent.ap files (these are archived routes).
3- Then on the second-to-last button to extract the RouteProperties.xml file from each archived route and make it read/write.

You will now see the route in RW-Tools and in NameMyRoute.exe.

Thank you very much Chacal

I don't use RW Tools that much, but would be lost if I didn't have it.

Your step by step instructions were very helpful. They couldn't have been better. If fact I picked up 5 routes. *!lol!*

I've been away from railworks for a few months and you have made my return very enjoyable.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me.

Hi Dave,
Just to expand upon Chacal's post above. If you wish to use the RW_Tools scenario editor or asset editor, then you will need to completely unpack the route and any associated scenario and asset .ap files using the left button on the 'Find all .ap files' form.

And don't forget to make ALL files read and write in RW Tools. Have you looked in the content folder in routes for the Rascal to Cottonwood route, is the content in an .ap package as well, cos you'll probably need to extract it to do any scenarios, this is a damned annoyance by DTG.
