If you know me at all then you should know that I do not take offense easily. If I did Bob would have sent me on my way years ago.

What I take offense at is having to agree that the first Rick's logo will look better and is much less busy than mine.

I was trying for a "bridge" line effect with the water and all.

Anyway, I vote for the first one too. !*cheers*!

Also, isn't your font for 'RWA' from the 1960s or 1970s?

That's right. I've used that font recently. I think its called Hobo. A bold capitol letter with serifs, perhaps italic.
On top of that, keep up the great work. !!*ok*!!

Yes, Hobo, thanks!
According to Wikipedia this font came out in 1910, so it's OK for the transition period.
I'm really surprised, I thought it was a hippie thing from the 70s.
You know, when we had fluorescent posters and black lights.

I really like the first one! The red and yellow color works really well together, and gives me the feel of a local iron ore rail movement company. I personally think the "1914" date is important. But it you feel it makes the seal a bit too busy, may I suggest you place below the words "The Lakeside Line" "Service since 1914", that would seem very appropriate to me. I feel most rail system would always seek ways to promote themselves.

OK, I got rid of the ampersand and the 1914. I also enlarged the Lake Superior image slightly and moved it up a little to balance out what is otherwise blank space under the big letters. That is in fact Hobo font. I had never been aware of this font until I was trying out different ones I have available. When that one came up I liked what I saw. As I often do, I made some small changes, flipping the A character to better conform to the circle motif, and trimming a bit off the R.

After I posted it dawned on me the RWA logo is very similar in some ways to the one used by the Alaska Railroad. What I really wanted was something along the lines of one of those old-time, ornate, interlocking-letter logos such as the one used by the NYNH&H. I never came up with anything presentable. I have to be constantly reminded that the people who design things like that do it well enough to make a living. Not only do they have a lot of talent, they've studied the work of other graphic artists throughout their careers. They understand what works, what doesn't -- and often why -- as well as how others have solved similar problems.

You'll see the current iteration of the logo the next time I post a screen shot.

With the help of Rich Wade, who recently visited an RS-1 on static display at a museum, I've made some observations concerning the cab and operating controls that might be of interest. I'll post those soon. Currently I'm still building Waterton Yard.

It was a great design... Maybe the font was not completely from the era but it had character with the 1914 and the rote name running around the logo

The design that Antwerp showed above "LHS Boston Trucstyle" would be cool on the side of the loco if that is not already what he made that design for !*don-know!*

At first I thought it was not, but then I discovered it dates back to 1910. So it is OK for the era actually.
