Western Maryland Hevyweight passenger cars

Unread postby AmericanSteam » Mon Jul 04, 2022 11:20 pm

Is somebody up for some WM heavyweight coaches to go with the H9s, or are there some already out there? The Britkits appear to be 3 axle trucks while those pictured for WM are 2 axle trucks.
The pictures in the link show varied car bodies and color schemes.

RSC’s PRR Horseshoe Curve DLC has a lookalike passenger car on 4 wheel trucks.

It wouldn’t be too difficult for an avid repainter to create an approximate WM day coach?

Penn Steam/Bessemer also come with a number of coach designs. Those may be easier to repaint.

Indeed, these coaches (BLE 9xx series) look like a good match because of the wider window styles:

Looks pretty dang close, just blast away the pinstripe box around the numbers and see if you can color the roof details to match.

Looks good. In the pictures link that I provided there was a baggage and a business car as well. These will complement the H9s in fine fashion.

If you can find the roof details without messing up the undercarriage let me know otherwise the roof detail stay the same. This model has windows up there and I'm sure they should remain the same unless you think white windows are realistic.

I stand corrected on the windows. The vents have to stay dark unless you can find out how to change the color of them without messing up the undercarriage.

On the template it's that little square box next to the gold rectangle that is the railings.

Link to temporary beta file. Just put this into the G-Trax\BLE\RailVehicles\Passenger\P66A folder.

There is one in BLE. I think that the only other heavyweights I have are from Britkits and they have a business car, combine, and baggage but the trucks are wrong.A baggage car from BLE would be okay.

Good enough approximation. I don't know how accurate the BLE original is, but to me it seems a steel sheathed wooden car on a steel underframe, ca 1915 built.
This is a shorter car compared to the picture of #200 the OP posted, so I suggest a numbering range of 817-824, per this WM listing: http://www.alphabetroute.com/wm/rosterp ... erUnit.pdf, to have it fit in the imaginary roster.

Pictures of WM passenger cars in revenue service are very hard to come by, since WM never was a real passenger mainline of name and fame.
For smaller passenger trains that protected local and secondary services, a combine or a baggage-RPO car would make a nice addition. The BLE DLC has a shorter baggage car already that could be repainted.

Obviously, a good set of generic heavyweight passenger cars with repainting templates will be a very welcome addition.
- full length (77'-80') for mainline expresses, shorter cars for branch line, commuter and local services;
- 4 wheel and 6 wheel trucks under the day coaches and combines, 6 wheel trucks under the full bagage, mail, coaches, Pullman sleepers, diners and observation cars. Both plain bearing and roller bearing variations on the modernized cars;
- clerestory roofs, original or rebuilt with full or partial air conditioning ducts, ice and battery boxes, etc as child objects? Nodes to the shape files require scripting and entries in the scenario editor, which is perhaps undesirable?
- marker lights to denote the End of Train!

http://www.northeast.railfan.net/classic/CARdwgs3.html and other diagrams from that site.
