UP E and F units

Unread postby WcCrupper » Thu Sep 16, 2021 6:31 pm

With Harry Adkins' repaint of Gtrax's lightweight cars, I realized that we really don't have anything to pull them.

A few years back, Pacific Coast Railworks put out the executive E units that Union Pacific has on roster, but as far as I know, we only have the UP units that survived to preservation to use in the game.

Therefor, I humbly put forth my suggestions for E7-9 units, and possibly F units (I understand that the Wasatch route comes with F units, however upon research I have seen a few different schemes used.

E7 - E9 locomotives - Amtrak E8 units. The E7 and E8 units had dual headlights (The top was a mars light with a red beam, however I doubt that can be simulated without a rework of the coding) whereas the E9 units had a single headlight. Both of these models are included in the pack.

F7 - F9 locomotives - Either the CZ DRGW units would be good for this, or depending on how they are to repaint, the Wasatch Grade ones might be a better candidate.

In conclusion, with Smokebox's Big Boy and FEF-3, as well as DTMs/Searchlight's offerings, it appears that these are the last missing pieces for Union Pacific power from the 50s through the 70's are these E and F units.

Just one more photograph... A bit of an oddity, taken during the late 40's. City of Los Angeles maybe?

There is this in game. I'd love to work on this project since most who have been around a while know I love these period hood units. I have to finish the U30C series and I'm intrigued with that F40PH CSX thing and then I could devote some time to some of these. If anyone else wants to jump in feel free and let the community know so we don't end up spending time on the same locos.

Buzz,

Quite honestly, I was hoping this would catch your eye, especially as you've done a wonderful job backdating the E8 pack to GN E7s before. I remember there being a UP F unit in the Kuju US Assets pack, but honestly I feel like there is a huge difference between it and other units.

I'll continue researching these and see if there isn't anything more I can't do to help you.

Pacific Coast Railworks used to have a UP E8. Maybe if you convince Trurails to re-release the repaint they might do it.

WC,
Starting on this group. I plan to do a shined up clean version of each of these locomotives and a faded or dirty version. Here's the first blush of the F7 using the JL one which is a kind of modified Empire Builder model.

The UP only had a couple of these but I have always liked these in the sim. About ready to go out for beta.
