PRR Grain Hoppers

Unread postby EngineerTJ » Tue Jun 18, 2019 2:13 pm

I would like to complete my PRR freight collection but there is a missing piece of rollingstock, the 2-bay and 3-bay cement or grain hoppers. I would like for these to done in the Kuju freeware hoppers since they are easy to repaint and are freeware for many.

I'm willing to give it a try. Let me see what kinds of pics I can find -- espc Decals.

But, don't expect the quality work off our betters here on the forums. Still, I'm willing to try.

WIP... cement hopper is looking pretty good, I think.

This what you had in mind?

The second car is frustrating me no end.. odd mirroring on textures -- no matter what I do it seems to reverse the opposite side!

And I can't figure out how to remove the auto-numbers. Can anyone shed some light on how to remove them.

Still, it's coming along nicely I think.

That is ok. The repaints look amazing and i especially like how spot-on the cement hopper is. Sorry for the late responses.

Today's update.

I have the mirror troubles sorted out and the second PRR Hopper is now properly displaying (too tired the other night to figure it out I guess).

So, all I have to do now is figure out how to remove the auto numbers and I'll then create a few hard numbered cars.

Does anyone know how to remove the autonumbers?

It’s generally a three part process. I usually change the dcsv file like make a new one that only has one number like all 1’s. Then change the numbers bin to make sure it’s looking at your file name. Then go in and make the number one black with a black alpha layer. Know that numbers are kind of different since the scenario remembers car numbers so you need to delete the car restart the game and then install the car again. Otherwise the number won’t change and more head scratching wondering WTH happened or didn’t happen? Hope that helps.

Thank you Buzz. I'll give that suggestion a try.

Meanwhile, I thought I'd be creative and make a second PRR Cement Hopper in the brown scheme -- a twofer!

And, because I can't leave 'well enough alone', I decided one more variation would be nice. I've also been wondering if it is possible to relocate the placement of the auto-numbers on a car? Is it? That would make things easier, as I could then make a simple cr side template with the area for the numbers prepared. Possible? Buzz?

Meanwhile, here's the third color and variation for the PRR cars.

It is not possible to move the auto numbering around since it's part of the model.

I was afraid you'd say that. Sigh...

OK, I'll create 2-3 of each of the above cars, hard-numbered, and call it good.

Thank you for clarification.

I really love those variations! Thanks so much for going above and beyond what I asked for and making the repaints look fantastic! I really appreciate it!
