DTM SDP40F Repaints

Unread postby GenesisFan99 » Mon Sep 17, 2018 5:34 am

Now that the SDP40F pack is out, it would be really nice if we could get some repaints. I was thinking Phase IV Hi Level coaches and Phase III, IV, and VI Pacific Parlour cars would be a good start. Locomotives could get repaints as SDF40-2s.
If anyone's up for the task, it would also be nice if marker lights could be added to the coaches (don't have to be functional would be nice just to have) and to have the diaphragms done correctly. If not possible, no big deal. Quite a few things require artistic license for various reasons.

Please note that the Pacific Parlour cars were named, and 39971 was not a Pacific Parlour car. It was in the worst condition of the 6 cars and was kept as a pinch hitter. For this reason, it had Parlour logos on it, but it never was rebuilt. It was eventually retired and sold to a private owner around 2003. 39970, 39972, and 39973-39975 all were in service up until February of this year. Here are the car names, in numerical order from 39970-39975 (skipping 39971): Columbia Valley, Napa Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, Sonoma Valley, and Willamette Valley.
I tried to provide as many pictures as possible, as well as some fun variations for the See-Level Lounge version (non Parlour with HEP). If you so choose to use it, I have provided the Amtrak paint scheme guide so colors can be 100% accurate.
I hope this gets put into train sim sometime soon as there are some suitable routes.

Correction, Phase "VI" you're talking is actually commonly referred to as Phase IVb, a variant based off of Phase IV. But Pacific Paulor cars would be great for runs on the Coast Starlight for the SF-Gilroy route. Sadly they're gone now which pretty much sucks.

Believe it or not, Phase VI is actually the correct term for the paint scheme. You can check that in the guide I linked which is an official Amtrak document, and you can check it on Wikipedia. Phase VI is different from Phase IV in that the colors are lighter and there are slight stripe differences.

Ah, it's just I've long been adapted to the "Phase IVb" term for such a long time. But I'll still call it Phase IV or IVb unless it's applied to a loco. Even if you couple up coaches, it'll look similar from a distant view :D

Similar maybe, but you’ll be able to see the difference between the Wordmark and the Travelmark as well as the colors. The other reasons it’s called VI are that Phase V has already existed on passenger equipment and Phase VI was released after Phase V. It would make little sense for it to go IV, V, then IVb. Phase VI came out in 2002. This is all info from Amtrak’s Matt Donnelly and the paint scheme guide.

Hopefully we can get somebody talented in decals to fix the Coach Dorm and do everything else. It just looks wrong without the zigzag stripe.

Before anyone gets too excited we have to see if the mapping is any less weird than on many of these Amtrak cars most of which are impossible to repaint accurately.

I don’t know much of how repaints work, but wouldn’t decals fix a situation where the mapping is stupid?

One does not simply "make a child object." Making a child object takes time and skill. I've been repainting for a very long time now and I still can't do it.

The good news is this appears, I say appears, to be pretty straight forward. Just looking at this point. *!lol!*

If a Milwaukee road F40C is possible, that'd be neat

Does this have something to do with the thread?

Its a passenger car from DTM, So you get a DTM Layout with the texturing, as you see here i started work on a pacific parlour car set
I will be using child objects on this, so i used the main texture as a place to put the textures as it had alot of blank space.
Da Build: Intel Core I5-9600k, Nvida RTX 2060 Super, 32 GB ram, and way too much storage.
