Engines in Sketchup??

Unread postby MarkDashnaw » Sun Jul 06, 2014 1:10 pm

I my names Mark, I am a avid railroad fan and was wondering if anyone is using Sketchup to create your engine frames?

Looking for a few engines to work on later this fall, I currently use sketchup, this is because I also use my files to 3d print parts for bashes/scratchbuilds.

Looking for a high hood RS-11

Any of the the Alco Centuries - C420,C424, C636

Baldwin RF-16 - Sharks

GE U23B, U30C, U33C

Can anyone help?

This one was developed in Sketchup first, then finished in 3DS:

I believe he is looking for the source files to load into Sketchup, which I doubt any of the authors are going to give them up. Most likely have to make them your self.

With the advancement of 3d printing, the skill that the sim crowd uses to design your loco's will give the ability of modelers to create any loco in any scale they want at their fingertips

This is from a sketchup drawing - It it printed in 1/29th scale g guage (45mm) GP-30c

The fidelity of prints needs to go up and the the price fall before manufactures get their collective panties in a wad. It's only a matter of time though. You can already see the beginnings of a cottage industry taking shape to fill voids not practical with traditional injection molds.
Cheers!
