B&M "Woodsville" Hopper

Unread postby RickKfoury » Fri Feb 06, 2015 3:07 pm

I was wondering if anybody with a little extra time and 3D crafting experience might be willing to help out with a project. In New England in the 1950s-1970s a very common car on the B&M system were the "Woodsville hoppers". They were basically B&M 70 ton hopper cars slightly modified for wood chip service and were based out of Woodsville, NH. They could be seen everywhere from Portland on the Maine Central system to Southern Connecticut on the New Haven.
I would guess that the easiest plan would be to modify the 70 ton hopper included in the RWA route. In fact, there is already a repaint of the hopper in B&M McGinnis available in the file library, so all that would have to be done is the addition of the raised sides. If it were possible to splice the raised sides from the RWA wood chip gondola and add them to the B&M 70 ton hopper, the car would be done. The 70 ton hopper included in the recent Golden Age BN predecessor pack could work as well. I'll include some pictures of the car. Of course I ask this of anyone who is not occupied, as I know how work can pile up!

I still see these around on the CSX former B&A, just they don't say B&M on them anymore.

Atlantic Coast Line had woodchip hoppers almost exactly like these.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for but it might work for you until someone builds something. It's available with the RWA Lakeside route.
