A new project is underway that we hope will satisfy most route builders. The Railworks Community Asset Project, or RCAP for short, is a group of leading developers in the Railworks community who felt there was a need for route building assets that were free from any RSC updates or licensing restrictions. Thus you are encouraged to create routes using these files, so long as none of the included files are used for commercial purposes. The files presented here are released under the Creative Commons Public License.

The intial package has been uploaded to the Railworksamerica.com and Trainsim.com file libraries and is available now for immediate download (UKTS pending):

http://www.trainsim.com

As this is an early release, documentation is somewhat slim, but rest assured that full documentation, including getting the most from these files is comming. We've added several source models in 3DS Max format, with 3DC and Sketchup files in process. All files have associated textures in either BMP, TGA or PSD (Photoshop) formats.

Planned updates will include additional assets, rolling stock, and complete routes. More coming, so stay tuned...

Have fun with the files, and if you have any questions please let us know. :D

Regards and Happy Holidays!
The RCAP Team

I think they look great, will be looking forward to some more.

Perhaps, something from the 30's and 40's would even be great, like some vintage factories or small town stores from the 1930's.

Sure thing - I believe the whole world is doable - unfortuantely, we haven't enough fingers or hours in the day to keep up. We'll just have to see where this all goes. :D

Just imagine how great it would be to have enough assets in one package to create an entire route. No more endless lists in readme's of tiny downloads from obscure places. It would be a huge advantage for enticing new players to stick with the game by eliminating the technical difficulties of installing a freeware route. This has got massive potential !!*ok*!!

Great work!

If I can put in a request, how about some depots and grain elevators (or pieces/parts to put together the menagerie of track-side elevators seen across the country).

Regards,
Trevor

Grain elevators are coming - the one currently being worked on wasn't done in time for the v1 realease. Depots too will make an appearance, and we're working on a solution so that the object selection menu isn't crammed with hard to find items. Stay tuned... :)

Looks great. Finally some honest modern typical US eye candy for TS2013.

Fantastic models.

Just a suggestion for the future (and thinking about finding downloads on a HD some months after it has been downloaded and maybe needs to be reinstalled) - any chance of making certain that each pack can be individually identified to type by name?

Perhaps put into categories like the UKTrainsim freeware packs, divided into Industrial buildings, commercial buildings etc, the same with stock/engines and clutter maybe.

Only a thought, as although they might be easy to identify on RWA with the photo, once in a HD backup file it might not be so easy. I routinely rename items, or place them in files if I need my own identifier, but others might not.

Great stuff though, and beautiful detail.
