It'll have to be generic - even with lua, I don't see how the detector can count axles.

I think Kali once said that the API did not have a way to count axles.

I think the only way would be to create 200 odd audio and batch files and preset it before you open Railworks. Alot of work for someone, but not alot of work for the user (except possibly calculating how many axles are on your train beforehand). Could be useful for a scenario in which a hotbox IS detected I guess.

If it were to work, only a dozen or so audio files would be needed - start, end, and 10 numbers. However, it's a lot easier for all involved to keep things simple and generic - besides, many detectors report on defects only (not all, but quite a few). Counting axles is not that important in the grand scheme of things. *!rolleyes!*

I can try to make one, if I can find my bnsf detector and I have other computer voices I can use for up, sp, ns. Idk about csx.

It's a stretch alright. I would need one for Delaware and Hudson. !**duh*!! You're right Marc. Axle count is not that important. But, most detectors give the train speed, and track it is on. I've heard others that give time and temp. If we could get the numbers and get the basic message, I think it could be applied to most if not all Class 1 rr's.

Do the detectors on Donner Pass do this?

I will tell you straight up that the detector cannot be made to count axles using the current script, which is the same one, slightly modified, that the crossing signals use. As has been explained before, that script only keeps the detector active a certain distance from the head and end of the train, and the same distance from the end of the train, so on a long train you would have a coverage gap in the middle. Won't say that it would be impossible though for some enterprising individual with a profound knowledge of LUA scripting (not me)...

Looking the the track charts for UP along my route 75% of the detectors only report on defect. Along my route along I have maybe 5 which squawk.

NS on the Atlanta North only reports the milepost and no defects ( track number if multiple ) in an uncheery digital voice. CSX on the W&A reports the milepost, total axles, length of train, and track number all in a voice so cheery that it sounds proud to be a defect detector.

Is anything going on with this or is the project dead?

Yes, I'd like to know as well if there's any progress on the route, has been a while since we've heard anything.

I mean there was supposedly a V2 coming with all sorts of additional FW assets.

Maybe some of the rest of us in the community could pick this up if the people working on this have lost interest.
