You can get a better impression of planned trackage if you look at this map:

Alaska Mainline (southern part) is everything south of Anchorage.
This also includes the branchline to Whittier through famous road/rail Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel.

That's more than 110 miles Anchorage - Seward plus another 12 miles for the branchline to Whittier.

The best feature of the Alaska RR is that they run the typical American freights along with their own passenger trains.

Having been to Alaska a lot and yes, I've driven through the tunnel to Whittier, I can only say outstanding! The scenery along this route is amazing and the Alaska RR equipment is gorgeous IMO. I swear they wash the engines every trip to Seward... I've never seen cleaner trains. Are there plans to continue the line up through Fairbanks after the initial release? Seeing the train go through areas such as Denali National Park with Mt McKinley in the background would sure be something.

Extending the route is in discussion but it would be an aweeome long route. I think it would be the longest route ever represented in a simulation game.

Tracks around Anchorage have been laid so far, some pictures will be posted in the next days.

Terrain is a bit tricky, as there is no good satellite data available for larger parts of the route, we are doing many things by hand, so it takes a lot of time!
We hope we could get into BETA this fall and be ready ufor release somehere in late 2012.

Hi TaD

I hope that your work progresses well, when is it planned to put on sale ?
On this link http://www.milepost39.co.uk/mp39.asp?do=line&line=45 the route looks great and I think that you must receive all the incentives for this mountain route . !!*ok*!!
Do it know what equipment to the ARR color will be with the route ?

Thanks
