TS2014 Marketplace is open for business

Unread postby OlPaint » Thu Oct 31, 2013 3:11 pm

The first batch of content for Marketplace with the release of the - Construction Scenery Pack, ATSF Wagon Pack 01, BN Wagon Pack 01 and PRR Wagon Pack 01. has been posted inside TS2014. This exciting new content can be found in the Train Simulator store through the main menu of the game.

I purchased all four packs from Steam Store. I just finished the installation of Construction Scenery Pack, ATSF Wagon Pack 01 and PRR Wagon Pack 01. For some strange reason BN Wagon Pack 01 did not download at this time even after a Verify Integrity...

I discovered the ATSF and PRR Wagon Packs folders installed into GreatNorthern's assets directory with the files in .AP archives inside a dedicated folder. But the Construction Scenery Pack installed into RSC assets directory inside MPConstruction01 folder also in an .AP archive.

I bought only the three freight car packs for they complement the existing routes well.
Like Ole Pint, I also got the ATSF and PRR packs only. I suspect yet another Steam glitch in delivering the paid for content. It usually will be sorted out in a couple of days.

What will the Marketplace bring? Is it only available in game, like the rotation monthly and weekly discounts?

I will get the construction pack, but I will pass on the freight packs as I already have them from Golden Age and there is no real point of buying it twice lol!

Could you please provide a link? The Store button never worked on my copy of TS2013/TS2014, and the Marketpalce link from RSC's website shows no content. Trying to find stuff through the Steam interface is an exercise in frustration. *!rolleyes!*

Madness.

Hi Folks,

I'll investigate what's happening with the BN wagon pack and get that resolved as quickly as possible - apologies folks.

Marketplace is going to be an interesting feature I hope, our plan is to bring a wider range of assets that we ever have previously, smaller things and lower prices. Scenery packs should allow us to provide more detail-oriented things that you can either use to super-detail existing routes (and even share via workshop if you wish of course) - or you can use them in scenarios. Wagon packs - well, it's pretty clear how they're useful, it means we can start offering a wider range of wagons covering different areas, territories, periods and so forth and really flesh out your rolling stock collections. There's much more to come and it's basically going to come out as fast as we can get it made or released.

Content for marketplace will either be made by us (RSC) directly (as in the case of the Construction scenery pack) or by third parties. As I explained in some of the articles leading up to the launch of TS2014, the aim is to provide a marketplace that allows smaller groups or individuals to produce simpler packs and get their work out there, on steam and available to the masses, usable in workshop and so forth. As you've seen, we've already got Michael Stephan (Great Northerner) on board and he's got more releases planned for Workshop. There are others working away on releases too.

In terms of releasing - basically as often as we can. There are many more packs in various states of production and we're only just getting started.

If you are a creator and want to get packs online then get in touch with me and let's talk.

If you have views on what you'd like to see then let me know that too, if we get lots of requests for a specific kind of thing then we can prioritise accordingly and make sure we're delivering what you want.

We'll also be running some articles on http://www.engine-driver.com about Marketplace generally and also about individual packs and how to get the most out of them too, so stay tuned there.

Enjoy the packs and once again, I will try to find out what's happening with the BN pack.

Never mind - I searched "marketplace" and eventually found the pages with the Downloadable Content filter enabled. *!rolleyes!*

Thanks for your reply, Matt. It is appreciated.

It is a good idea, but needs good implementation. Steam as a distribution platform has its pro's and con's, recent and recurrent glitches have proven it is not without problems.
With the Workshop now thoroughly taking off, the Marketplace can only follow. Lots of creators will find the possibility to earn some money for their efforts promising.

About polling wishes and customer requests, how do you think to organize that? Steam and the Railworks main and collection or store windows are already quite full with options.
There is still room for one more bouncing square on the main screen or one more tab in the Store. And there are only accessible to owners of the game.

Engine Driver perhaps? Here everybody can read news and vote in a poll, but non-players can disturb things.

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated.

We'll be using Engine Driver to get feedback from people, as well as being more than happy to accept emails to us and so forth.

Hi, Matt,

Will items sold through the marketplace be usable in Steam Workshop scenarios? (I'm asking this here because, despite being registered, I've yet to figure out how to provide feedback through Engine Driver.)

Yes, marketplace items are equivalent to DLC as far as Workshop is concerned.

If we already have the wagons from say the ATSF wagon pack bought directly from the developer, then if they are used in Workshop scenarios, will the sim recognize them and allow us to use the scenario, or will it not work unless we buy them again through the marketplace?

Hi, unfortunately my old add-ons (or basically, anything released on a 3rd party website including this one right here) will most likely not work with the Workshop. The old packs from my website are also different in composition to the ones on Marketplace (other models and/or other versions of the models).

Basically, I tried to assemble the Marketplace packs as a sort of "best of" selection of my models. In addition, there are also some all new models in the Marketplace packs like the NSC 50ft boxcar or PRR lowside gondola.

Well, I've gotten good use out of the old models. Thanks for the reply. I don't mind getting them again. Hope this new venue works out well for you.

Michael. Will these new RW DLC freight cars packs have air-hose connection?
Hoping to see many new re-skins of these cars.
