The Gresley A4's are my very favourite steam loco, particularly the chime whistle. Have seen Sir Nigel in a million pieces at the SVR back in the 90's and was due to see Union of South Africa at Kings Cross in 2005 when I was there last, only to be subbed with Duchess of Sutherland (still, a fair trade )

There is a big 75th anniversary of the 126 mph steam speed record run in July, with all of the remaining 6 preserved A4's, including Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower from Green Bay meeting at York at the National Railway Museum (hence this special licensed pack and the funds donation). They are currently trialing Bittern for some special 90 mph mainline tours in conjunction (currently limited to 75 mph) There is some video of the trials posted about. It is something special to see

As much as I love these, decided not to buy - still annoyed at RSC's treatment of the UP 4000's and would rather devote what time I can get to enjoying Mike's Conny on the COA, but am hanging out for the 800

The A4s are my favorite British steamers (I'm American). I think that RSC should do what Just Trains did (I have the Just Trains version. I'm thinking about getting the RSC pack too) and make a repaint pack of the other 29 A4s in LNER and BR livery. Another thing that we must have is a LNER East Coast Mainline (ECML) route from London King's Cross to York. If we can' get that we at least need the Grantham to Peterborough section of the route so we can have Stoke Bank.

I bought that route when it first came out. It''s by the same people (person?) who did China Clay for Export (set in Cornwall) and it's excellent! I'm looking forward to the next part which extends the route northwards.

I would like to race this, and the 800. 2 iconic passenger locomotives of legend, records and stories of no speed limit, it will be hard to resist!

I see what you mean. Someone on youtube hit 128 mph on Stoke Bank. I'll look into this route.

Overall an 8.5/10.

I just managed 123mph on the Mallard with Manual Firing. There's an competition to see who can get the highest speed with the Mallard.

RSC said that it was hard to record the chuff sounds. Both Just Trains and RSC couldn't get the chuff sounds right. Just Trains' chuff sounds are too deep. From a few videos I saw of the RSC A4, RSC's low speed chuffs are too high pitched plus the medium speed chuffs are really off beat. Also, I like RSC's whistle better than Just Trains whistle. Could someone make one for the Just Trains A4 that sounds like this?

I just saw another video on youtube of someone breaking the speed record. Mallard went approximately 125.88 mph. Someone took Bittern to 125.96 mph.

Those are indeed some dandy whistle sounds, but I'm quite sure that the variations, particularly the opening notes, depend on how the driver pulls the whistle cord. In the video, I think that the driver starts each whistle sequence by pulling the cord just a little, producing a lower note, and then gradually pulling it until it reaches its open extreme, which creates that sequence of higher and higher pitched sounds leading to the highest note, which lasts until the driver releases the cord. Sounding a whistle or horn in RW by pressing the space bar or some other appropriate key will not imitate this effect: the pre-recorded sound is either on or off. An entire sequence of notes can be recorded and played back, but each "blast" will be exactly the same, except for possible variations in duration that depend on the amount of time that the activating key is held down. Yours and other recordings of actual whistles or horns make it clear that some drivers played their whistles or horns like musical instruments.

Curious how it does on the flat....considering the "record" was set downhill as well.
