GS4 on Steam

Unread postby Griphos » Thu Feb 14, 2013 4:18 pm

I'm assuming the GS4 just added to Steam is simply the GTrax loco without any updating. I have it already. It would be nice for Steam to recognize that, so it would update it should that every happen, but I suppose it's like any of the AllAboard routes bought directly through Rich. My concern is that if people do Workshop scenarios with it now that it's available through Steam, will they recognize that I have it? I suspect not, and I will be told I have to buy it to use the scenario. I think I'll write to RSC and ask about it.

Still, nice to see it available again.

Its just an update with the lights that is it.

Well when I was looking over the announcement for the GS-4 re-release on Facebook, I noticed this comment by RSC:

"If you already own this loco, you will not have to pay for it again :D"

So I'm assuming this means that if you have already bought the GS-4 through Steam before it was taken off, then Steam will still recognize that you own it.

The problem is that I bought it from GTrax. Same DLC, but I thought I'd give the money directly to GTrax in case there was a commission or something that STEAM charged. Guess that was a bad idea.

Yes it was. My old GTrax didn't update.

I bought all the Steam locos thru G-Trax too. Acording to the Gtrax site there's a chance we'll get the update.

"Notice of forthcoming patch to G-TraX US Steam series

The publisher of RailWorks has temporarily removed certain products from the Steam Store to allow those products to be updated to run optimally under Train Simulator 2013. Among those products are the three G-TraX US Steam products: SP&S Northerns, Nickel Plate Berkshires, and Southern Pacific GS-4s. The release date of these updates is unknown to G-TraX. However, when the US Steam series is re-released on Steam, look to this page for a concurrent update patch for US Steam products you purchased directly from G-TraX. "

Well, that's promising, but I'm still worried that my version won't show when trying to run Workshop scenarios that feature it. Of course, I've got over a hundred other Workshop scenarios to get through already. :-) Still, it's nice to run these old standards.

Unfortunately, unless RSC changes it's rules/policy I'm afraid Workshop scenarios won't work with assets purchased directly from the vendor. !*not-ok*!

The G-trax from RSC or from G-Trax is in the same folder. Unlike how they moved the Bigboy and Challenger from IHH to RSC folders. Makes me think it might work in Workshop scenarios but I have no real clue as I bought all mine from Steam. They do reside in the same folder structure though.

*!lol!* Yeah, could someone please make a great Workshop scenario with the new Steam version so I can see?! *!twisted!*

I will be keeping my eye on the Workshop so I can test it when one does pop up. And I hope some do. In the meantime, they came with scenarios so I can always run them again, or swap in other scenarios. And some day maybe I'll find the time and courage to try to build my own. I have Marleyman's new updated tutorials.

Just had an interesting exchange with RSC that I thought I'd share here, and perhaps on UKTrainsim as well. I'm am SO tired of their (lack of) support! I recently bought the Class 33 and found it unusable with the controller and wrote them. As usual, they said there was no problem, and if there was, it was my problem. Luckily, people who know told me how to fix it myself. I don't have ANY other sim or game product with such lousy support, where so much has to be fixed by the end user.

Read from the bottom to start at the start:

You guys have the worst support I've ever seen. It is not someone else's content. It IS your content. You didn't make this DLC. GTrax did. They sold it through you and directly. Now it is only sold through you. Their product is not incompatible. It's the SAME product that you sell through Steam. I'm not asking for some new content for free, only that the content I've bought that is EXACTLY the same content be recognized even though it was purchased through a different delivery system.

Your iTunes analogy is totally flawed. If I buy a CD, I can import that music into iTunes and it is fully functional in the program, without any difference to music I buy from iTunes. I bought a DLC from GTrax, and it is not fully functional in the sim, even though I paid MORE for it from them than I would have from you. The only difference is the delivery method. And I am being penalized for using a different delivery method. If you will not make my DLC fully functional, even though I bought it FROM THE SAME DEVELOPER YOU GOT IT FROM, then you should provide the DLC that is fully functional.

It's even in the exact same folders I believe. It's not like it was a developer that you don't work with. It was available through Steam and through the developer when I bought it. I could have bought it cheaper from Steam during a sale. But it was charity DLC with funds going to the heritage societies, so the money went the same place wherever I bought it, and I thought it would be good to pay the full price to Gtrax. It seems to me that this particular instance of GTrax heritage DLC needs to be treated separately from your usual policy. SInce it is necessary for support or for Workshop compatibility, those who bought it through Gtrax (and can show receipts) should be able to download the Steam version at no cost.

I notice that when I look at the store page in Steam for the engine, it doesn't show me as already having it. My concern is that any scenarios made for it in the Workshop will not recognize me as having it and I won't be able to run them. Of course, I also don't want to buy the engine again since I've already paid for it. How can this be addressed so that I can use Workshop scenarios made for it?

Not being pessimistic here, Phil - but you might want to edit your email address out of that post else it's visible to any number of bots
