Donner Pass Update

Unread postby Shortliner » Sat Aug 18, 2012 10:22 am

From the RSC Facebook page.
We have had lots of questions about how work on the Donner Pass is going. This great screen shot shows you how things are progressing. We are currently working on adding large sections of new track to replace the old one. We will have some more great screen shots for you very soon.

Looks great, however just out of curiosity... who are "we"? I mean: are "you" working on (or for) RSC team? or are "you" working by your own to release a mod version of route? In the "after" shot it seems is being used ScaleRail, am I wrong?

You mean its going to get really really cold here soon? *!!wink!!*

WOW, I never thought I would lift my boycott.

But.

This update better be more than just track. It needs to look like the Sierra's.

how much it looks like the sierras will depend entirely on the level of detail of the DEMs they're using.. Most DEMs are scaled at 10 meters or greater. This means that its going to miss anything smaller than thirty feet or so across. I've seen some 5 meter dems and some 1 meter dems, but nothing much smaller. detail is really hard to get with meshes ( unfortunately ) and the sierras just dont look all jaggedy like the sierras without it..

Certainly an improvement. It's not as good as some other routes they've offered, but an improvement nonetheless.
I'm just glad that RSC are working on the route.

Yes, Yes. I am taking into consideration what the game engine can do. :D

I am looking more at the trees, or lack of trees, or where there are whole areas where the trees were shaved off by the snow, or exploded by lightning strikes. All of which is visible near or around the trackage as you drive up the highway.

Then there is the rest of the flora and fauna... but I will not get into all of that.

To me, I guess Im just a little disappointed. It looks almost the same but with different raised tracks. Maybe I don't have the trained eye to catch the little details !*don-know!*
