New York Central Boston-Springfield Route from GTrax

Unread postby AlecWarper » Thu Dec 01, 2022 11:51 pm

I was randomly on the Gtrax site earlier, and stumbled upon a new slideshow of photos from what appears to be a New York Central route coming in the near future?

I admit I'm not terribly familiar with the northeast... does anyone have any idea where this new GTrax route may be? Excited in either case, especially for a throwback route from my favorite developers!

If this is the B&A line, then that tall building with the light on top in the night shot looks like the Prudential Building in Boston.

If so, then the route is set at some point at or after 1964

G-Trax has developed some of my most favorite routes in TSC. I am very excited to see what they put together for this route!

Kettles a the way *!lol!*

Rick does beautiful work...

(I wonder if it can merge with Michael's VNH of the sa.e area !**conf**! )

!*cheers*!

*cross fingers* Maybe they can work with VHRR and have a merged New Haven to Boston via Springfield? But, this is just a dream...

Route is set pretty definitively after 1965 because of the inclusion of the Mass Pike extension to the Central Artery in Boston. This period is pretty interesting because of the mix of color lights and semaphores; when the turnpike was built, the line was equipped with the New York Central's standard GRS Type SA searchlights with the small targets from Framingham east.

As cool as it would be to see this in the steam era, I think the post-turnpike era is probably the right choice. It'll be the first route that's appropriate for Penn Central without some imagination, and you've also got early Amtrak. If you wanted to stretch it a little, there's scope for the early F40 era of the MBTA as well. Richard Scott's PCC will also look right at home on the D Branch section of the Green Line which you can see in the BU Bridge shot. I'm happy to see more New England in TS for sure, and man did they capture that mid-October foliage almost perfectly. I must admit that as much of a B&M guy as I am, the Boston & Albany has always had a special place in my heart. Definitely looking forward to seeing some more images of this one, especially around Worcester and Boston.

My current rig would burst into flames :D
Btw, would it make any sense at all merging these two routes? AFAIK the Springfield Station was (is?) a major interlocking point, but was there any through traffic?
I assume the NH preferred their own line from New Haven to Boston.

They added some screen shots to the slideshow that caught my interest. Don't know when.

If I'm not mistaken the locomotive on the left of the first image is without a doubt an ALCo PA.
