BNSF global licensing for DTG and Train Simulator

Unread postby ElphabaWS » Wed Dec 08, 2021 9:04 am

Excellent news for Train Simulator as DTG has announced its BNSF branded content will become available globally. This issue was a complex one and had nothing to do with either party being uncooperative, so kudos to both DTG and BNSF for making it work.

Terrific news. A level "playing field" at last for TS20xx.

Could the embargoed add ons e.g. SW1500 pack, GP9 pack etc be released for general purchase? It only needs a block being removed not a re-release should be a simple job with money to be made and great pleasure given quickly.

My understanding is that, over the coming months, all DTG content (routes, DLC, etc.) that has been limited to U. S. distribution due to the licensing issue will be "unlocked" and available globally.

That’s great news. I was fortunate to get most BNSF products before they were embargoed or buy unbranded items after but there’s two I’ve never been able to buy: ATSF SD45 pack and the Chicago Racetrack activity pack…hopefully those are on the list for release!

Even better news, you'll be having me believing in Father Christmas (again) soon.

Many thanks indeed for posting this news.

It was inevitable. Demand was too great.

I myself personally fought for this for a dern good year and a half now. Ever since looking through one of the Workshop collections for a user, about half of whose content required locked products (some as many as six or seven), I have not dropped this. I'm glad it finally stuck and that this is going to benefit everyone.

Cajon Pass Alpha will be on my list of things to look at once I have Stevens Pass officially unlocked (I already lucked into a copy of Marias, and found Cajon available elsewhere). This might be a good time to work on scenarios for the expanded route, for those already able to use it or who have the assets due to the Cascadian. I know Mojave to San Bernardino is a freight service, and in fact is featured in a documentary where a train was unable to stop and destroyed part of a neighbourhood (and we'll ignore the gas pipe problems two weeks later).

EDIT: Amazing, I found that exact scenario set here: http://railworksamerica.com/index.php/d ... :scenarios

The BNSF embargo didn't just affect BNSF logos but other rail companies that they own/owned. BNSF owned the Santa Fe routes/locos and also the logos on the trains in the Clear Creek route were not the right ones for those living outside the USA. I'm not sure whether we will be getting these too. Perhaps DTG could verify this. I don't know of any other routes locos that are in TS2022 that were rebranded or not because of the BNSF embargo.

It is anticipated that all major BNSF predecessor brands - such as Santa Fe - will also be available for worldwide distribution.

Marias Pass is the first route that DTG is rebranding for those outside the USA and is being released on December 22nd. I already have this which I purchased before the embargo.

I'm glad to see the BNSF routes going out to the world. Marias Pass is showing its age but its still a good route. Stevens Pass and Hi line are very well made.

How is it showing its age if I might ask?

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I destroyed a mostly built Canadian route (much smaller) years ago to remove all the Marias Pass and Stevens Pass assets which no Canadian could purchase. There were no suitable replacements for the route assets at the time resulting in an odd combination of other route's assets to compensate and way more route assets than I wanted to have with a single route. I went from using the assets of 5 routes to 11 routes. It was absolutely nightmarish to remove or substitute all these assets and I spent months off and on doing it including redoing all the track for reliable operation. Stevens Pass is a must have for any route builder and I am glad to see it back available for everyone even if it is too late for my route.
