BNSF Hi-Line (Shelby-Havre) coming to TS 2020

The BNSF Hi-Line route will soon be coming to Train Simulator 2020.

This new route is a model of the east half of the BNSF Hi-Line Subdivion, which runs straight across Montana's high plains from Shelby to Havre. Its western terminus, Shelby, connects to the Marias Pass route DLC from Dovetail Games, thus completing the entire Hi-Line Subdivision from Whitefish to Havre in Train Simulator.

Rick Grout (G-TraX) and I have been working on this project for several months now and our route is now nearing completion. The Hi-Line route will be a standalone route DLC (it will not require Marias Pass or any other DLC to run) and it will be available worldwide.

Image

The Hi-Line subdivision is part of BNSF's busy northern transcontinental mainline (Chicago-Seattle). It was originally built in the late 19th century by the Great Northern Railway (GN), through mergers it later became property of the Burlington Northern (BN) and finally the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroads.

The Hi-Line is a partially double tracked mainline with a high volume of traffic, particularly intermodal and grain traffic. Amtrak's Empire Builder passenger train also runs on this line and stops in Havre and Shelby.

Image

High line speeds of 79/60 mph, the heavy traffic, and a sawtooth gradient profile with frequent climbs and drops of up to 1% make this route a challenge for the engineer. The route's end points at Shelby and Havre offer yards with many switching opportunities. A large and very detailed engine maintenance and shops complex can be found in Havre. Lineside grain elevators at nearly every station along the way provide numerous possibilities for fans of local/wayfreight operations.

Image

Smoothly rolling terrain with vast areas of farmland, small towns and settlements, scattered bodies of water and small remnants of the original Montana high plains vegetation create a unique scenery. Throughout the seasons, the Hi-Line changes its colors and goes from lush green in spring to dry brown in fall, before a smooth blanket of snow covers everything in winter.

I have to ask why is this going to be available worldwide and Marias Pass not available outside the US?

For those who have "Maria Pass", I ask, will this new route connect to her in the simulator? If yes great news ...

Take my money!!

Seriously though, you and Rick have created and continue to create some of my favorite content for this sim. Thank you for that.

Are you aiming for distribution on Steam, or elsewhere such as the Cascadian?

There will be scenarios for these on there. BoostedFridge won't sleep unless he does some.

Hi,

thanks for the many kind comments!

raptorengineer wrote:so i going to guess locomotive roster: es44dc and gp38-2.

Yes. ES44DC, GP38-2 (Heritage livery), and also the SW1500 for some good yard action. Plus a big assortment of freight cars of course, including a brand new Trinity cylindrical grain hopper, a covered gondola, a BN caboose, single and Maxi-Stack articulated stack cars, and modern low-poly "yard-filler" cars (updated versions of the ones from Portland Terminal).

BoostedFridge wrote:Are you aiming for distribution on Steam, or elsewhere such as the Cascadian?

Steam-exclusive.

buzz456 wrote:I have to ask why is this going to be available worldwide and Marias Pass not available outside the US?

Marias Pass and several other DLC were released before BNSF changed their licensing rules. For younger DLC (Racetrack etc.) there's a new procedure in place where only the US release has railroad branding included.

VITORMARQUES wrote:For those who have "Maria Pass", I ask, will this new route connect to her in the simulator? If yes great news ...

Both routes are seperate DLC so you can't run a train in a continuous scenario across both routes. Our route shares start coordinates ("route origin") with DTG's Marias Pass and also the west end trackage (used as "AI runoff tracks" in our route) was taken from MP. It should be possible to merge both routes for the Workshop (in similar fashion to Danny's London Network Workshop routes).

Cheers!
Michael
