Really looking forward to this one. I’ve been following the progress on their Facebook. Their modeling seems to have improved a lot on this pack.

We have had a more than adequate SW1200 around for quite a time - the Britkits (Dick Cowen) version.

I've been looking forward to this since DTM announced it on their Facebook. Can't wait to reskin it into everything!

I picked it up this morning and ran it for a bit on the RWA before work. I love it!

Repainters: All yellow areas in screenshot are from the main hood texture (4096x4096); looks to be repaint-friendly. Posed next to SW1500 for comparison.

It makes me so happy that people are already working on repaints...

How well does the engine run?
Some two of the reviews on steam are saying that the physics "suck".

Of course they do. Someone always says that about everything. See comment by my signature. So far what little time I have had to play with it I think it's pretty nice. However like the commenters on Steam I don't know what it's really supposed to be like. It certainly doesn't speed away like a race car or anything so not sure what they are talking about but then they probably don't know what they are talking about either.

I am pleasantly surprised and unexpectedly impressed. I really like the added (to this model) features of being able to alter the smoke/exhaust stacks, add/remove sunshades, mirrors and alter the handrail configuration on the running plate. These locos had all sorts of variations in those departments even within the same railroad (Rock Island especially!!). All credit to DTM/DTG for these features and I hope they are applied to all future stock as applicable, especially the sunshade(s) feature. The handling is OK, no it doesn't rocket away nor does it stop on a penny but heck what does???

Lol I'm not sure what folks are expecting? These aren't road units, they aren't made to load up and accelerate very fast. For loading fast you just have to notch up to whatever gets your train moving.

I’m not complaining, to me the performance is as I would expect.

Thanks for the comments, I saw those comments on steam and was hoping to get some more informed/detailed feedback here. When it comes to addon physics in train simulator, my minimum need is “plausible” rather than hyper accurate. Sounds like these units fit the plausible category at minimum.
I really wish people wouldn’t leave such broad review comments as “the physics suck”, that’s not helpful or descriptive of what the alleged issue is. There’s a big difference between someone thinking a loco accelerates slowly vs a more significant issue such as the N-Line GP38’s with the barely functional braking system.

It has my thumbs up! Yes, sounds could be a little better, and the physics could use a little tweaking, but I'm confident our RWA community will rise to the occasion and address these minor issues. Overall, DTM did a nice job on this little switcher. The modeling and texturing are good, and it has the look / feel of a SW1200. Plus, I'm looking forward to a spat of repaints to come out of Buzz's Paint Shop! BTW... I left a thumbs up review on Steam.
