The 1938 stock train was a pet project of mine, something I worked on in my spare time, what there was of it.
I assumed it would be released as a piece of standalone DLC, although as Derek says, that would limit the appeal somewhat.
The idea was it would encourage someone to make a proper Underground route for it to run on. To that end, the route comes with tube train sized tunnel lofts, and LT style trackside cabling.
So I was pleased when DTG came up with the London Transport Heritage collection concept, with fitted in neatly with the desire to release a revamped Phorum line, adding Danny Leach's fondness for all things Network SouthEast into the mix. The end result being this quirky little route which I think is good value for the price.
However, I am dismayed by comments elsewhere that the tube train is little more than a reskin of the Island Line 483. It is much more than that, with new cab and passenger views, a more accurate simulation script and functionality. It also has the full range of Northern Line destination and marker light combinations. cab & gauge lights and opening cab windows.
I am very grateful to Dave Brindley, Matt Peddlesden and Edward Fisk for the help with the scripting as this was way beyond my ability. My only regret was I didn't have time to figure out how to improve on the original Class 483 sounds.
As the other stock has a ready-made home on the Virtual District Line, I'm quietly confident the community or 3rd party developer will make a proper deep level tube route for this train.
Also, Vern might be interested to know the narrow gauge track is still present in the assets folder and can be accessed from the editor.
