Some Help on .GeoPcDx Files Needed

Unread postby ebarruse » Sun Jan 03, 2016 3:43 pm

I really want to create the Amtrak Capitol Corridor for TS2016 using RSC's Surfliner CabCar. As we all know, the Capitol Corridor's cabcar horn is located on the roof of the train car. While surfliner's horn is down at the bottom. I need to edit the .GeoPcDx file in order to do this. I know it can be done because on J's Train Simulator Workshop Facebook Page he is publishing his WIP on his version of the capitol corridor. I want to make my own modifications in blender myself. So the question now is, how can I do it?

I am not familiar with the particular locomotive that you mention, but in general you cannot edit the mesh in a .GeoPcDx file. I know of two options for making changes:

1. To add items to a model, you build them in Blender and add them to the Engine Blueprint. For example, the new horn could be built and added as a Container Component to the Engine Blueprint.

2. For removing items, you may be able to 'alpha' them out. If the item happens to be rendered with an alpha shader, you can use the alpha channel of its texture to make it invisible. This is limited though as the item must be mapped to a unique area of a texture, not shared by other items. This isn't always the case. Also, if it doesn't use an alpha shader, in some cases you can change the shader name in the .GeoPcDx file to an alpha type, in order to do this.

You can also delete the particular mesh out of the GeoPcDx file directly if it was originally exported as a group.

Also this, if the horn is a child element in the shape file:

I've used this technique successfully with blueprints.
I've never tried it with geopcdx files though.

Just remember the GeoPcDx files are someones intellectual property. You can do anything you want for your own use but if you publish a modified one it is considered piracy.
