I will post the pictures here once I get on my computer. Meanwhile I will leave the Engine Driver article here... But dern, they look real sharp - something that will please old-school GE fans. But the bottom line is....they will most likely use the same sounds as the DTG CSX C40-8W, but probably with a new horn. Maybe if the horn is wrong our great community will develop one, even tidy up the physics (Fan Railer!)

More U-boats coming our way! U36B on Blomberg trucks!!

I wonder who creates these, DTG in house or commissioned from third parties that advertise on this board?

It would be nice when a loco on AAR Type B road switcher trucks also come, one that could be used on many other roads.

I felt that the loco needed it's own thread. For a 2015 release DTG actually got the colors right.

Seaboards U36Bs were on Bloomberg trucks they used from trade ins I believe.

From Wikipedia:Major purchasers of U36Bs were Auto-Train Corporation and Seaboard Coast Line, which hosted most Auto-Train Corp. traffic. In 1976 four U36Bs that were built by GE for Auto-Train Corporation, which had purchased 13 earlier, were instead sold and delivered to Conrail due to Auto Train's financial difficulties. These units, built to Seaboard Coast Line specifications, were originally fitted with Blomberg trucks; when Conrail purchased them, the railroad asked GE to replace the trucks with AAR Type B instead.

FYI: WP ordered their U30B's stipulating Blomberg trucks from traded in EMD F3's and had their units ballasted to the max.
GE had to shoehorn their traction motors into the truck' frames, and WP later found the EMD journal boxes couldn't cope with the lateral forces.

Wonder how SCL/AutoTrain's U36B's fared in this aspect.

So units on normal AAR Type B trucks would be most welcome too.

NJT only had U34C. The 6-axle version of this. They were monsters on the rail. I have lots of info on them since I worked there as an engineer.

My search shows the only Seaboard and Autotrains had the U36B and those from AT ended up on Conrail where they got the AAR trucks.

"The Seaboard Coast Line's 103 models remained in use through the CSX Transportation merger of the 1980s. The company had mostly retired the fleet by the early 1990s and sold the units to various short lines (like those mentioned above). Interestingly, the Transkentucky, which owns the most U36Bs, also operates several units of GE's U28B design, one of the railroads to still employ the locomotive in freight service. In any event, as the remaining U36Bs continue to age some will probably find their way into museum collections for preservation."

I'm very curious who is making these also. Maybe it was an obvious course for the next family of locos missing from the game, but I think it's strange that DTG suddenly is working on a U boat when Oovee, VRC, and Ulf @ VRR already have them on the go. It's reminiscent of when not long after Ian announced his SD60M with his Seattle Route that DTG dropped their triclops SD60M. Then later with their SD80MAC when one was already under construction.

I don't believe anyone else is working on the U36B gentlemen.

Now we need some SCL era signals for the route. Most of these are gone now, but many of them remained in service on the Miami and Auburndale subs through the '90s.
The blue doll arm lights looked awesome at night!

I'm still holding out hope for a U30C or C30-7. BN or Seaboard for both, pwease DTG?
