Seems like they have it out for you, sd60m showing up same time as yours, sd80mac and a Florida route.

I really hope this happens, just think of all the railroads it could model, Tri-Rail, FEC, CSX.

Well the 60M was actually created by DTM and not RSC....

The dangers of polls >> http://www.railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11388 *!lol!*

I'd not worry much, this bit from the link in the first post and the Tri-Rail pic pretty much covers how good any route will be ..LoL much

So, first thing first: where in Florida would you like to see a Train Simulator route? Bear in mind that routes can’t be over long, as the longer a route is, the longer it takes to build and test, and that could lead to more expensive routes if they get too long.

Anything from any member or 3rd party would be far better.

Ian,
Just wait for them to get far enough along to tell us what part of the FEC they are going to do and then go on from there either North or South. If they do anything other than the FEC they are dumb.

FEC Miami to Titusville would be nice. Could also fit CSX from Mangonia Park to Miami in since the routes are very close to each other on that stretch.

If you go back and look at their article you will see that they have no intention of doing a three hundred mile route. That 's one of the reasons they were looking for input. One would think they would be looking for a stretch of something that has some industry and such along the route to give it some interest besides just looking at the pretty palm trees. While I enjoyed the comments about the historic Key West to Miami the fact is that there was almost nothing between the two points so the route would be fairly uninteresting from an operational perspective.

The Seminole Gulf Railway would be an interesting route to model. It has all kinds of interesting rolling stock and some pretty nifty industries along its route.

If I were to do a Florida route... I like Matt's thought's thinking relative to Titusville/Miami. A distance of approx. 225+/- miles... as the Flamingo flies.

Or north to Brunswick GA, something I find myself leaning toward. Brunswick is where a huge quantity of foreign automobile are imported for distrobution... 200+ miles north of Titusville.

Terrain would be mostly flat (easy build) and many assets could/would be imported from the 'Pacific Surfliner'. Having been to both regions (many times), Southern California... Florida... to me, seem architecturally similar, aside from a quantity of Florida specific (costal) items.

In either direction, I would also make good use of the Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center area in Titusville. A spur with unique structures and several sidings that would make for a quantity of interesting scenarios. Not to mention scenario opportunities in Brunswick, Jacksonville and other points in between.

A 'Lucky Strike' extra... a dogleg spur to Orlando out of Jacksonville that would offer Amtrak 'Silver Service' in addition to freight and still even more scenarios. I'm not sure how the recent 'Sun Rail' service may fit into this logic, but it would be nice if it did.

So much for my two cents.

To get a good feel for an existing route that covers Alabama and western Florida, the excellent Alabama route by Georgian 22 shows the constant swamp and canals that cover the gulf side of Florida.
As a young pup I worked in Mobile, Ala. and Pensacola, Fla. working outdoors. Lots of river crossings and complete flat land. Miles and miles of nothing but track between towns. The vegetation and waterways are covered on this route to a "T". I can see assets from the Surf liner route being used. Remember most of Florida is only a few feet above water.

I think there is plenty of opportunity for other route developers to make routes in the sunshine state. Sadly, nothing goes further south on the gulf side than Ft Meyers. *!sad!*

I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm ready to see a steam era route from DTG. Jacksonville seems like it was quite the busy place back in the day.
