Thanks for the offer! I will get over there some day, when I can afford it and have the time .... probably in a couple of years when I take early retirement. I have family in California, in the mountains close to the Donner Pass, but still haven't had an opportunity to visit.

You realise of course you have made a rod for your own back and that all future steam loco releases from any builders are going to be measured against this loco :D

Some more US steam certainly would be welcome. I find it a little ironic that the builders of US steam don't actually live in the US - both are Brits *!lol!*

*!!thnx!!* for the continuing hard work.

!*cheers*!

Yes, Dick Cowens and the new boy, me.

I'll be measuring my own work against the Consolidation, because I really am pleased with how it turned out. The next one should take less time, now that I've overcome the learning curve and have many parts that I can reuse. The compressor, generator, bell, headlight, dog latches, many, many bits are common to most of them, but each loco will have its own unique character.

Thanks, those shots are great!

I might ask you a favour from time to time, to go back and take really close ("in your face") close-ups of things while placing a metre stick or 12 inch ruler next to them *!lol!*

By the way, I've seen in a lot of photos of preserved static displays, they're painted in strange colours, like shiny black all over, or the firebox all white. I suppose it's a weatherproof paint to keep the elements at bay. Just something I have to watch out for when making photoreal textures,

Cheers,

Mike

By way of a thank you to everyone supporting me here, here's a sneak peek at the cab at night ...

I took these shots with the cab and gauge lights on, shadows enabled. For those with arithmetically challenged computers, don't worry, you can toggle the shadows on and off without leaving the scenario ... just by pressing ctrl-shift-S.

Be my guest! I didnt take too many today because my hands were already frost bit within the 5 mins I was out there. It's COOOOLD!! The GN steam was indeed painted Green and silver at one point, but like you said, you'll have to be careful.

It's getting cold here too (Madrid), but still no snow (pity, I love the snow).

Would they let you see into the cab? It's always difficult to find good reference shots of the cab, and again, good close up details of all the equipment, from various angles. I'd like to get the cab to look like the real thing and to use authentic textures if possible, to give the feeling of being there.

Cheers,

Mike

It looks like there's a stair access next to it mrennie.

I practically live in the cab. Ill bave to go later when theyre open to get in. Cool story is my Great Grandfather frequently ran this one as he ran the Minneapolis - willmar and willmar - Breckinridge line. She would be found pulling high priority trains and the Empire builder before the Fs came about.

I'll be waiting for the next project!...

But, if you had all the measurements and drawings, would you do UP 844? (I tremble thinking of it coming out* with the quality of the Big Boy and Challenger **!!bang!!** )[assuming that it ever does]
