Having dabbled in Trainz, where most routes are void of bundled rolling stock, shared scenarios become a frustrating matter of trying to track down all the necessary rolling stock and engines. In my experience, the scenario authors try to use freeware stock, but often times one or two pieces (or more) of payware find their way into the scenario. If you don't have the payware, you have to substitute for freeware items or other payware which you own, which often times breaks the scenario... at least for me. What's worse, some freeware items and/or dependencies are from a defunct personal website... making them difficult if not impossible to obtain.
So even though DTG includes recycled assets, at least it is a usable route out of the box, with usable scenarios. No search and destroy missions to find missing assets or dependencies.
