slick204 wrote:Mike, I have a question about the scenario "Consolidating Power". After a very slow start I finally made it up to the tunnel. If "Slippery Slope" is worse than this, I'm never going to make it! Anyway, I had read something about blow back so I saved shortly before the tunnel. I got blow back and was dumped out of the scenario. I tried to restart but there were several broken consists. Not sure what happened but it looks like I have to start from scratch. !*hp*!

So, just how do I keep this, blow back, from happening? If I pull up all the way on the stoking pedal with that do it or will it eventually open the doors? What I mean, is there a minimum stoking rate or is it no stoking at all? That's what I was going to try but it's too late to start from the beginning.

Thanks for your help.

Dragging up on the stoking pedal (or holding shift R) for a couple of seconds will stop the stoking completely (the doors will stay closed, and in fact you'll then be able to open them, when you want, with the hand lever). Also, turn ON the blower. The blower is in the smokebox and is used to draw hot air away from the firebox, through the flues in the evaporator section of the boiler and up the stack.

The broken consists is something that plagues scenarios. I deleted half the amount of AI I had in then scenarios originally, because they kept on causing broken consists after save and resume. It's a bug in RW and the only way to avoid it completely is to have no AI *!sad!* Unfortunately, you'll have to run the scenario again !!**sorry**!!

!*cheers*!

Thanks Mike, I'll give it another go. It just took a long time to get there. I could only do a little over 1 MPH in the yard, otherwise I'd get wheel slip. Yes I had the sand going! Like you said earlier, it does give you a sense of accomplishment when you have it dialed in to get the most out of the locomotive. !!*ok*!!

I've had that 1mph problem too, but it happens only now and then. I believe it to be a bug in the game's physics engine. When it happens, come to a full stop and then try again. it should pick up speed properly at the second attempt.

I can't believe this thread is 45 pages and counting! I don't own this locomotive, but I'm shocked at how much people have to say about it. Most long threads have to do with an entire route or about the new EULA.

Must be one heck of a locomotive! !*roll-laugh*!

Too bad I'm lukewarm to all but a few steam locomotives.

It's only $20. Why do you need $200? Plan on gifting it to 9 other people? !**conf**!

I ran it again tonight and had none of the problems of my last attempt. It was a completely different scenario! No slipping and no blow back. !*cheers*!

I did get some wheel slip on braking though. Ah well, there's always something to work on. Now on to the Slippery Slope!

PS - Any news on when the patch will be pushed out?

In real life, if you are planing a heavy set, put sand on the tracks about a train length away from the point at which you will take the set. This increases traction for the cars/engine(s). Whether or not railworks simulates this...

I sent it to RSC on the 14th but they still haven't done anything at all with it. They're having some problems uploading patches to Steam. I'll keep you all posted about it.

I'm glad it worked this time! Did you manage to stop correctly in the siding at Johnstown? First time I tried, I overshot it. You need to judge the brakes very carefully on the Connie because of there not being any partial release. It is fun :D

I would !*roll-laugh*!. As you can see Flying J is about 5 miles from where I live. They only accept min of $50 plus $4.95. I can Max at $200. So why pay $50 per $5 fee if I can put $200 for 1 fee and buy as many as I like? !!*ok*!! I have to use Moneypak, then put it on my prepaid card. I don't have bank account, prepaid is the only choice I got , so I don't go begging my bro and my sis to buy these DLC for me.

It was !**off-top**! !!**sorry**!! bout that guys.

Sounds like a good, money-wise plan !!*ok*!!

Well, by the time I got stopped the nose of the locomotive was starting to turn into the switch out. So probably not correctly!

And speaking of sand, it says in the manual that you should be able to see sand coming out of the tubes at the front (or rear) of the loco. I have the sanding lever up but I don't see anything. There's not a sanding throttle is there? *!lol!*

That would be great if it worked in the sim but I was putting down sand and still squealing and sliding!
And since you can't do a partial release on the brake, I just let 'er slide. :D
