Yep, it gets easier with practice :D

The route looks very impressive!

mrennie wrote:Next, I tried changing the AI helper for a GP7. However, as soon as the train was moving, I found that I couldn't move the reverser. I could move it while stopped, but once we were moving, it wouldn't move either backwards or forwards. It only happens when I put a diesel as a helper.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to to fix this, apart from the obvious solution of shortening the length of the consist and doing without a helper (which is what I've done for the time being)?

Mike, I hate to dig this up from January but did you ever figure this out? I was trying to drive the IHH Challenger in a couple of the included scenarios and found that after getting underway I can't move the reverser. This is the only thread I found when I searched.

The reverser being locked by having a diesel in the consist has been around for quite a while. I informed RSC about it shortly after I ran my first mixed consist in March 2012 but never heard back.

I found through testing that you only have to reduce the throttle to 0 to change the reverser. Unless it has changed recently, you shouldn't have to stop to change the reverser.

Mrennie when I get back up and running I'm going to edit a tender file for extra long haul say 45 tons of coal and 40,000 gallons of water. *!!wink!!* . I'm sure someone wants to run end to end of Donner Pass without have to stop.

There was a extra tender or something behind the tender. What about those? It should give you more water or something.

I don't think the sim is capable of doing that

Yeah, the sim only recognises one tender. Any others would have to be set up as ordinary cars.

I've sent a patch to RSC to cover three things:

1. No more puff ball from the right-hand cylinder drain rooster;

2. Corrected the flashing stripe on the left side of the lined tender;

3. The loco and tender now have rail joint and flange squeal sounds.

Those aren't stock sounds, they're specific to the Consolidation, i.e. I made them myself :D (and I do think they turned out rather well).

I only recently got into running steam so I hadn't heard of it. Thanks for enlightening me! It does work and I ran the scenario but it takes all the fun out of it. All that training to coax the reverser into the prime position shot to hell!

Back on topic: I finally got the Consolidation yesterday and have been learning to operate it whenever I can kick my kid out of minecraft. *!rolleyes!*
I'm part way through the tutorial where I just topped up the tender with coal and went back to couple on to the train but it won't couple back up. I've tried slow and fast, I've tried clicking on the coupler but nothing works. !*hp*! Any ideas on how to fix this and continue?

Also, what's the difference between hold and hold lapping on the train brake. I've read some on westinghouse brakes but they only talk about lapping, which I always thought held the current pressure.

Oh, and thanks for the Rio Grande livery Mike!! *!!thnx!!*

Guys would you like a tender that can go end to end of Donner?

@ Bpetit

The "rivot counters" would argue that is not prototypical. IMHO, An extended range tender would be nice.

@ Mrennie

How hard would it be to add a auxillary water tender to the lashup like the modern steam excursion trains do.

I'm not worry about them. It would be for a route with no coaling tower or watering tower like Cajon Pass.

I'm sorry for thinking outside of the box here, but why not add service facilities as I have done on Tennessee Pass?
